I've been every were, It's like space men came down and took all are fish!!!! NO, the fishing has been tuff to say the least. I went out to day and the only thing I got was MOSS. This resent rain was a GOD SEND but it made the river and most of the streams I've seen MUDDY! This year has been tuff for some reason. We did get some walleye at Tiber the other week. |

I plan on going out this Labor Day weekend to try for some Steelhead, Salmon, and Trout on Lake Huron starting on Friday. The last time out there was for a couple of tournaments. (Brown Trout & Pepsi Super) We did OK,... but the catches have been pretty puny as of late. The largest on came in at just a little over 10 lbs,.. nothing like the previous years where they averaged about 22 lbs for Salmon and 10 lbs for Steelhead. I sure don't know what happened to the GOOD fish this year!! |

Sounds fun I'm not much of a trout fisherman any more(walleye fever) but if it's the only game in town GO FOR IT!

Well I just got back IN after trying to head out this morning! We had to come back in for 2 reasons,....
1. The FOG was so THICK you could not see more than 20 feet in front of you and it was getting thicker by the minute. 2. There is something wrong with my electrical ignition system on the cruiser!! It runs just fine at anything under 2000 RPM. If you try to go any faster,... it acts as if you are turning the ignition switch off & on. (cutting in and out) I just finished testing the complete primary and secondary systems and can't find a thing wrong! Points, condenser, coil, cap, rotor everything falls within specs. I'm baffled at this point. I'm going to take it out back and hook the water up to the muffs on the out drive and give it a try. It won't do it without a load on it,...If I increase throttle while in neutral it won't miss a lick even up to 3000 RPM she runs absolutely GREAT! As soon as it goes into drive however,... well then the problem shows up again! FRUSTRATING!!!! |

Hmmmmm,... This is interesting. I took her all the way up to 2500 RPM and let it run that way for 15 minutes,..... she didn't miss a lick. No problems with it when it didn't have to "Work" moving the weight of the boat in the water,... I'm open to suggestions!! |

Could it be fuel problems instead of electrical? Water in the tank... clogged fuel filter... vapor lock?

Fuel was my first thought,... I replaced both water separator filter and carb fuel filter, took it out afterwards,... problem was still there. Then after thinking about it, and remembering how instantaneous it would just turn off and back on (like a light switch) I started checking the electrical end. The coil was my first suspect,..I just replaced it. I checked the points, condenser, and all of those connections and wires for shorts to ground. Nothing! Battery voltage to the coil and points is good. |

We have had record salmon/steelhead runs the last 4 years since the Bonneville Dam was put in on the Columbia in 1932. Steelheading has been hot for me with at least one steelhead a month for the last 2 years...mainly on the North Santiam which is closest to me. The chinook(kings, tyee) & silvers (coho) have been hot in the ocean. Now the kings are in coastal rivers and have been running large. A friend and I got 4 one day last year with 3 over 50 pounds on the Siletz. A novice fly fisherman got a 71 1/2 pounder two years ago on the Rogue on a #10 fly.
I'll be after both steelies and chinook later this week with Dungeness crab in the spare time. The sea run cutts at 20" are too small to bother with this time of year. Life is hard with sore arms & shoulders at the end of the day. You Eastern folk count yourselves lucky when you get skunked. |

Tried for pike for a couple hours today. No one was catching any. One of my friends did pretty good on Mackinaw today on Flathead Lake, and says around the river mouth, the fishfinder screen was completely black with white fish staging to spawn.

Got another steelie below the dam on the No Santiam Thursday. Water was quite high but clear. It was about a 6-7 pounder.
