Topic: Reading A Good Book (Fiction) Posted: 04 May 2004 at 09:23 |

I'm currently reading a really good book called Point of Impact, by Stephen Hunter. I am about 1/3 of the way through and it is a real page turner. The copywrite is 1992 (I think) so it's been out for a while. It's about an ex Vietnam sniper that is set up for attempting to kill the pres. Have any of you read it, and if so, how was it?

Well, I see I haven't had any takers on this thread. However, I finished the book last night. IT WAS GREAT! You could probably pick it up at a used book store for $1. Get it... it's a good read.

I have been absorbed this past six - eight months reading Louis L'Amour stories.
They are great relaxers for me and I read about four chapters a night
Am on the 4th combined book and have read a bunch of the smaller paperbacks.
Better than the news and all the other B. S.

Moose;
I've read quite a bit of Mr. Hunter's work. Pick up The Master Sniper if you can find a copy. It's about the Nazi sniper program in the late stages of WWII. From there he progresses into the Bob the Nailer works & is now covering Bob's father, Earl in Warm Springs & the one that's set in Havana.
If you'd also like to try an interesting 'history' book, get Eric Flint's, 1632. I suggested it to Waksupi & he told me he also found it to be a good read. PM him for a second opinion.

I did enjoy 1632. I will read the sequel when I can get my hands on it.
I will have to look for the one set in Havana. There is a former military sniper/spotter living in this area, that was there before the Bay of Pigs. He and his partners' assignment was to kill Castro. They set up several blocks from his headquarters, and the trigger man took the shot. Fidel's milk man stepped in front of the bullet, and died right there. The trigger man wanted to take another shot. Orders were for one, so there would be less chance of being located. When he refused to leave the area without another try, my friend had to kill him, sanitize the area, and leave back to the coast to be extracted. It has worked hard on him over the years, as it was his best friend he killed.

I have two more of Hunter's books... they are the "Bob the Nailer" sequals. I have to finish a book by Dale Brown first (my favorite author). Should get back to "Bob" in a few days.
I will look for 1632. Has it been out long? If so I hope I can find it at the used book store. I will definitely pick up The Master Sniper!
