Hey all, I was bored today ant went for a drive to check out a new shop 50 miles down the road. Not a lot of stuff, but lots of powder and great prices. Most brands are $14-15 which is $2-$5 cheaper than by me. They also have Vihtavouri (sp) for $18, I would have grabbed some but don't know enough about them to know what I'd want. Anyway, I grabbed some of the WXR from Winchester as it is supposedly what they are using in the WSM's. With listed max loads I got an average of 3066fps (ES of 19!) with 150gr Horn Interlock, I wasn't expecting any accuracy with 20mph gusts but here's the target, 4 shots right at 1 inch. 2 I got with no wind, the other two caught a gust. I must recommend this powder so far, more testing in calm weather is a must though!

Another thing, I was surprised of the volocity (3066avg) as listed data shows 3100, that is the closest I've ever actually had a powder come to the listed velocity. I don't really need them this fast, was shooting (pun intended) for about 3000, bolt lift was just noticably a tight tight so I'll drom 1/2 a grain or so and be plenty happy.

I also should say this was from my 270WSM in case you didn't realize.

Orion, the 223 is a 10, the 270WSM is an 11. Don't ask me to explain the difference in the models though. If all else stays the same, I'm almost afraid to see what happens with no wind. We've got a small storm system coming in and it is supposed to get up near 60 in the next few days but with rain and wind, so I'm not sure if I'll get out in the next few days to try again.

WIth decent weather I would sure be tempted to go out and do it again! I don't know the differsnces either. I do know the 3 digit series is long action and the 2 digit is short action. Guess I'll have to head over to the website and see!

you got the long/short part right, aside from that the differences are usually in the stock choices. BUT, both 10's and 11's can have the same birch stock, bothe the same synthetic. The 12's usually have the varmint laminate, but can use the synthetic. The 14's and 16's have american walnut, and the 16's are all stainless. Not that I know anything about Savage.

Tikka, 100 yards yes. 65.5gr WXR with 150 Hornady SP Interlocks. It's got the 4.5-14 Fullfield II on it. The good thing is they grouped well even with the wind, the bad thing is those four pieces of brass won't hold a primer anymore Well one won't hold it, the other three push in and out by hand very easy. Those pieces had 4 firings so there number was about up, making that load number 5, but the pressure must have been up there. I'm going to get a few loaded with 65 even and see. I had a hard time getting much over 2800 with H4350, and that was with rather poor accuracy, so I wanted to try a little slower powder, I think I lucked out. 3000 fps with that bullet fits the B-plex almost perfectly. I take it you aquired a rifle finally? The only thing I can say, and this is going from primarily the .223, is I wish brass life was a little better, but maybe 5 loads is ok for a mag.

Sure did check the rifle page. Have you tried any 130's in it yet?  My buddy has just tried the 150 over the counter loads so far gotta talk him into springing for the dies. I'm in a hurry to try some of this MagPro,but I don't have a chrony so I'll just have to go by the books for awhile. If this thing hits anything like that .300 did it outta be a keeper, buit thats what I said about the Savage

One more thing have you been over to shortmags.com ,they got some folks over there that have already done quite a bit of reloading, might be a good read.

Between these two posts we keep stepping on each others words I guess. I used 130's to break mine in, the first group ever out of it measure under 1/2 inch. They seemed to open up a little with brass age but still stayed well under an inch. You should look into a chrony, I forced myself into it and glad I did. I don't know how all you guy's can handle not being able to shoot at home. I love running back and forth making and shooting it as fast as I can. Instant results with proof just seconds after birth.

Ok, update on the actual post. I loaded some up with 65 due to the slight pressure problem of 65.5 and the velocity went up to 3160 with 150's! 2 3 shot groups went about 3/4 each, not too bad. I'm out of FED primers now and have to switch to CCI, see what happens. More info to come.
