I have recently acquired through an estate a rifle which was, apparently, sold through the Browning network and is stamped on one side of the barrel "Browning Arms Company"
The stock is a high gloss, Monte Carlo design in European Walnut, not heavily figured. However, the rifle is obviously a Sako Vixen. It has the little Sako action, chambered in 222 Remington. The barrel and receiver have the Serial number stamped on each, and also scribed on each on the underside.The Trigger is typically the Sako adjustable unit, the barrel is 24¼" long and the muzzle is in the "white". The rest of the rifle is blued in the Sako style. The Serial # is 5xxxYx
Also stamped on the barrel on the opposite side to the Browning stamping is: "Made in Finland" Can anyone tell me more about this rifle? Value? It's in fine shape, except for a couple of minor stock dings. When did Sako make rifles for Browning? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, EE.

Eagleye;

What you may have is:  Browning High-Power Bolt-Action Rifle, Safari Grade, Short Action.  Calibers: 222 Remington, 222 Remington Magnum, 22 - inch lightweight or 24 - inch heavy bbl.  No sights.  Weight: 6 lbs 2 oz. with lightweight barrel, 7.5 lbs. with heavy barrel.  Made 1963 - 74 by Sako.

Value in EXCELLENT condition is approx $750.00 to $800.00 current U.S. dollars.  From your description, I would think that it's in VERY GOOD condition & therefore worth approximately $640.00 to $680.00 .  That is, of course, without glass.

Do you ever run across much LHB stuff up there?

900F; Thanks for the info. What I obviously have is the Heavy barrelled version, since the barrel is quite stout, and definitely longer than 22". I am going to take it out and see what the accuracy potential is. Someone has taken the trouble to bed it, and it looks like an excellent job, too. Also has a Redfield STD type base on it.            Regarding your other question, sometimes there seems to be a fair amount for sale, other times it dries up. It depends on the chambering and the rifle. I was in a local gun store last fall, and someone had 4 Savages for sale [consignment] I note that they are all gone now. Were you looking for something specific?  Regards, EE.
