I recently got a Ruger Super Blackhawk in .45 Colt. 

I have only shot this one with factory loads that came with it ao get some brass.

I remember D having a similar gun and working on loads for it but couldn't find the post telling what the results were. 

Can you guys suggest a place to start working up a load? I doubt I'll use it for hunting. Probably just shooting and taking when we go camping in the mountains. It came with scope mounts but no scope. I'm still unsure if I will mount a scope on it.

Nice, I had one in 44 mag.

The scope mounts are integral on the  barrel.  I have 6 pistols that I hunt with, all have scopes.  As my eyes are getting olde fast, I just changed my 44 SS over to a red dot (tru=glo  $49).  I like it.

But single actions look better with open sights.

Re loads, a light low with moderate velocity does it all with the Big bullet.

I like the looks better and I'm thinking it'll be a lot easier to carry without a scope. 

That's pretty much what I was thinking about loads. I'm also hoping I can use a powder that I already have on hand. I have Blue Dot, Unique, Clays, and Bullseye. Do any of these work better with this cartridge? I'm thinking 250 or 255 grain powder coated lead bullets.

Tongue YUP 45 LC is fun but can be a handful.
Blue dot can be used I don't think that's what I use. 
My boy does my loading. Powder coating does not work in my gun. They won't chamber all the way in the cylinder. ???
I cast my own 303 gr hard cast bullets. I push them fairly fast. I finally found a red dot that will hold up to the recoil. I sight it in for 75 yards. I have taken a deer with it 75 yards. I don't use it a lot now though, there very heave and BIG. I now use a 10mm 1911. I do use Blue dot and 155 gr hollow points.
Remember: Four boxes keep us free ,the soap box, the ballot box, the jury box, AND the cartridge box

I don't cast my own bullets so I'm limited to whatever I can buy. I'm glad you said that about powder coated bullets. I'd hate to buy a bunch and not be able to use them. 

My Sierra manual has loads using Unique with their bullets that look like they are about half jacketed and half lead. I might try those.

Unique will probably work with light plinking loads. I have loaded lots of 44spec and 38 spec with it.

I'll try Unique since I have about half of an 8lb jug of it. 

I also have a full 8lb jug of Clay's. I hope one of them work so I can use up some of the powder I have on hand.

Hey Wing,  Try Unique!  I have shot THOUSANDS of rounds over the years in the Cowboy Action game of .45 Colt loads using 7.5gr Unique, LP primer with 250gr or 255gr plain base cast lead boolets. Both in replica Colts SAA & replica 1866 & 1873 rifles. Easy on the gun and books says about 850fps in handguns. Don't remember the hardness of the lead boolets tho. Never had a leading problem tho.
However, The Super Blackhawk can handle hotter loads with jacketed boolets for hunting if you so desire. Just match a powder with the jacketed boolets you buy. You might even considering trying some of the plated boolets from:
I use them in calibers from 9mm to .45 for plinking fun.

I also use Unique to load light rifle loads for the annual light old smoke pole competition at antelope camp. but I think i still might have enough to last my lifetime.

No suggestions on load for your .45 Colt as it depends on whether you're going with jacketed or all lead bullets. 

Nice score, though, that's a very handsome wheelgun! Love the stainless/pepper laminate combo! Cool
