Could you let this one run here a couple of days before you scoot it over to the  optics forum please !

I just want to help the local economy a we bit ! I have 2 rifles that need scopes. I had been hearing about the new leupold built redfield scopes.

After reading an article about them in the Shooting times,The article was writen by joseph von Benedikt.  Don't remember reading anything by him before, But I will quote from the article.

The writer paraphrased a leupold spoksman as saying the scope is intended to compete with the imported scopes similary priced.

And the writer says "I believe it will - to put it crassly- blow similar priced imported scopes out of the water."

These sopes are made here in beaverton oregon, abut 20 miles from my home in Portland.

     The best part is I orderd mine  a 3X9 -40 Duplexfor 149.00. + 12.00 shipping.

Our unemplyment rate is about 9 or 10% out here. And as i am likly going to needing to change ocupations soon. I have plans to talk to leupold about what i can do to become qualified to work for them.

I will give a fair an honest report when i recieve the scope !

i doubt that I would make as much money as i made driving for fed ex freight , but leupold pays prety well and money is not everything.

I was excited to,back in the day I would even grab a Redfield (USA)over a Burris but they killed themselves when they came out with the 30mm and the Partners,I had one good Partner then they took the overseas dive. I'm really glad Lupy is bringing them back and making them in Beaverton is a plus for my family since alot of them live there. Lets face it even I have 3 great Lupys, but their customer service is gonna have to get better before I buy anything from them.

customer service and Leupold............well my story goes like this: I only have 1 Leupold scope a VX1 2x7 and I like it!  But the story is about a pair of binocs I once had......Leupold Mesa 10x50 about $200 range retail.....I got them at a garage sale, brand new in box, they won at a "dinner" of some sort......paid $24 for them, unused.  Were pretty good until I dropped them (in the soft case) onto my concrete garage floor when my arms was to damn full of stuff from the truck and I shudda known better.....anyway they never would look the same place with both eye pieces after that.....sent them to Lupy & told them the story.....Viola!.....got back the NEXT generation of the Mesa as a replacement at NO charge to me.  A nice upgrade to the product from what I had.  My only experiance with their customer service so I am happy with them based on that.  I like the binocs too!

I've got about 15 Leupolds, hunt them hard and use them on heavy recoiling guns.  Never had a problem, so I can't say the CS is good or bad.  Some of the older ones are 39 years old.

I liked the old Redfield  uSA stuff, not as good as todays Leupold nor even the Bushnells, but good for their day.  They probably put Weaver out.

We will await the report.

I got an old Denver Redfield Bear Cub 6X.  It's still good to go.  I should research what it might be worth as it's got the European post & crosshair reticle.  And that combo's gotta be somewhat rare.

Nope, it's a one inch tube.  In a Beuhler one piece bridge mount too.  Hell, that mount's probly worth about 5 times what I paid for it.

TJ.

I am really looking forward to your review of this scope. I have a couple of rifles I dont use very often that have cheap glass on them. I plan on upgrading but don't want to go as high priced as Leupold.

Dang, This a fun sport, but it's getting expensive.

Good news.  Leupold only bought the Trademark; so all the junk technology of the Meade/Simmions/weaver stuff is out of the picture.

I suspect Leupold will just make this the low end line (aka their present Rifleman line).  That should mean a good rugged low end scope of (mostly??) USA parts and manufacture.

Wing, we will just have to see.    TJ will tell us?

Lots of cheap scopes have pretty good optics, but the mechanicals suck.  Times have changed since I watched them grind scope lens for military sniper rifles at Unertle.  Lens grinding by those little German guys with leather aprons was the expensive part of quality scopes.

I guess today the lens is the cheap part of the scope?

I recieved my ne redifiled scope a couple days back.

I have not mounted it yet, not sure what I will put it on.  I would say for the monesy it seems to be very good. I would bet it compares to the VX1 Fairly well.

but this is a very premature post, I will give a better review when i mount the scope and shoot some targets...tj3006

The old Redfields may not be as good as the new Leupolds or even Bushnells but I have a 2 3/4x Widefield and a 1-4x, both made in Denver that are still doing for me some 40 years later.

Going to retire my 1-4x as a excuse to get a new Redfield 2-7x with the duplex ret. Ordered it yesterday from Midway. $129 and shipping. If it's even close to the review's I've read, it's a steal.
