Hey guys, what is you favorite handgun caliber? This can be for hunting, self defense, NON-RIMFIRE. That would take all of the fun out of it if i counted in rimfire!  My fav right now is non-existant. I dont have enough experience with handguns to decide just yet. I really want to try out a .41 Rem Mag, to see how much i like it.

NH;

With me, it depends upon the use I'm going to put it to.  That being said, if I were to be held to just one, it'd be the .357.

Favorite defense caliber? .45 ACP, hands down. Favorite small game, plinking, and defense in a pinch? The .32 H&R.

10mm. Nearly the same power as a .357 but more controlable in a light gun. I like my 500 S&W, but it doesn't like me.

45 Long Colt.
I love it for the nostalgia of the fine guns chambered for it.
I love it's versatility. I can load mine down to levels suitable for my 11 year old to pot blue grouse with, or I can load it up to enough romp and stomp to punch through an elk.
While all the newer "sexier" magnums may be getting all the attention from the doting gun press, the 45LC quietly soldiers on, getting the job done today, just as it has every day since 1873.

My vote would have to go with the .357 Magnum. I have several heavier calibers, but I seem to pick up the .357 to check out a "bump in the night." There are very few that can penetrate like the .357 with the proper load, and the FBI lab claims that Winchester Silvertips are the best load in a .357. A long time ago, one of my "mentors" told me that the .357 was a good all round caliber, and as much power as the average person can handle comfortably. After years of shooting, I tend to agree with that statement, all the while buying heavier calibers. I tend to believe that anyone armed with a .357 Mag and trains with it regularly is a force to be reconed with................Kingpin

Well I like to hunt with my 41, the 357 is way to noisey and a little lite (i think) . Most of my buds use a 44mag but I dont feal unger guned with the 41,I'd lovr to try the big on once!!! 500 s/w(cool!)

I can't decide whether I like the 44 special or the 45 colt best. Both have served me well. I have a 41 but with its 4/58 in barrel I have a hard time figuring out where the stuff about less recoil than a 44 mag comes from.

The most expensive bullet there is isn't worth a plug nickel if it don't go where its supposed to.

i like the .44 mag. you can load them up ,or you can load them down.  they make a nice big hole on paper. i load everything from a 208 gr. wad cutter to a nasty 250 gr hp cast.

Okay, leave out the best, the .22 ('fess up, y'all -- we shoot a LOT more .22 than any other caliber.)

I like the .357 -- it's highly versatile, and good for about anything short of really big game.  I carried a Colt Model 357 my first tour in Vietnam, and used it twice.

Next is the .45 ACP.  My carry gun for many years has been the M1911A1 in one form or another.

For serious hunting, the .45 Colt.  My handloads in my Colt New Service are adequate for deer.  In my Ruger Blackhawk, they'll do for Tyrannosaurus Rex.
