  Whats the gangs take on these types of revolvers.

  I want one to use/shoot/enjoy. I've always wanted a Colt but lets face it they are expensive and nobody shoots them as they are more of an investment.

  What I want,deep blue,357 maybe a .45LC,nice grips, depenable, something I could pass down to the boys,nothing over a 5 1/2" barrel,something I could throw on my side in the woods,play with at the range. Don't want another Blackhawk,want something  more traditional. Looked at a Colt Cowboy the other day,just didn't feel right even if it did have them 4 famous letters on the side.

 And the spring ,is a flat one better than the coils?
God,Mother,Country,and Hot Rods. Done with political crap.LOL

i like single actions for some things - but they aren't my favorite, nor are they one i look to first for anything.

however, single actions are a classic, dependable design. nothing wrong w/ 'em, just not my first choice.
Hunting is not a matter of life or death; it is much more important than that.

Generally speaking, very generally, coil springs are considered to be superior to flat springs. 

Take a look at the new Ruger Vaquero, it's a slightly smaller version of the original Vaquero & some folks like it a whole lot better.  Ruger put it out as a pure Cowboy Action gun, not to be loaded to hellwon'thaveit levels like ya can a Blackhawk.

Of course, the new standard in CAS is getting to be the very good Uberti singles.

 If you don't want to spring for a Colt, then the next best option is the Ruger New Vaquero.
The most expensive bullet there is isn't worth a plug nickel if it don't go where its supposed to.

I'm a big fan of Ruger Blackhawks, But the Cimarron arms Thunderer in 45 Colt is one SWEET  S/A.

I like my 5.5 inch 357 Blackhawk, but you say you are loking for some thing that balances and is fun.  Think of the 1860 BP replicas.  I have a peteri, really is a fine piece.  Cabelas put them on sale this month, about $198 and no FFL

I agree with Kingpin.......the SAA feel is just great! U don't get that "feel" with the Thunderer types. Go for the .45 Colt chambering too, it is awesome & formidable! 

Also, there is nothing like the sound of the authentic SAA "clicks" on a old fashioned style Colt or clone vs the New Model Rugers. Plus U get the pull the hammer back way to turn the cylinder for loading where you load ONE and skip ONE then load 4 & when you let the Hammer down it rests on an empty chamber........the SAFE way to carry a SAA. 

Most of the Italian clones are pretty good too.

My Uberti is an older one they called the "1875 OMB" or Old Model Blue.  That's the lighter color "Fire Blue."  It's 4 5/8" in .44WCF and in the "Black Powder" frame style.  Really nice, fun gun on the range or in the field.  Use the same holster for the 5 1/2" version.

You will love one of the Cimarron, Uberti, or USFA in style, barrel, and caliber of your choice, but I like the .44WCF or the .45 Colt.  My next one will be in the 5 1/2" barrel.  Probably in the black powder frame, just because I like the idea of the "old style" way of doing things.

Heck, even my Marlin 30-30 is the Model 36 with the slab side bolt.  Turn bolts are for Bolt Action rifles.

I bought a Remington replica army revolver a few years back in .44 cap and ball. To date I just haven't had the urge to shoot it. The grip, is like all Colts of the era. I don't know what to tell you Justin, but balence in these things is second to none. I had a Colt SAA Army New Frontier (adjustable sight) for a long while. It had a 7 1/2" bbl. and the balence and feel was still there. About the only thing I didn't like was that when the trigger was pulled, the long travel and weight of the hammer made it feel like the gun was pushing itself towards the target. Aside from that, I'd buy another one, and in .45 LC. I just loved the one I had, but needed a 40X Rem .22 LR a lot more in those days. I don't sell or trade anymore.............................Kingpin

Well Pin,,,I was watchin' somethin' about revolvers,an' they were talkin' up the SAA grip,,,the '51 navy actually,,which is about the same,,,anyway the Colt rep that was readin' on Sam Colt's notes said that the grip was made to place the last finger under the grip to control the roll,,,so maybe the grip does fit me,,,the grip on the '60 army was made long to accomodate the gauntlets the cav wore,,,but with my short thick fingers and wide hand,the '60 grip fits better,,,but I prefere the linked rammer of the '51 better than the creeping rammer on the '60,,,to each his own way,it seems.

I never thought about it until you mentioned it Justin, but my little finger naturally slips under the grip. If that was, indeed, part of the plan, it works. I have always hated looking back to when I traded my 7 1/2"  New Frontier SAA. I really enjoyed shooting it. Well, I got a 40X .22 for it. It was a good trade, since when I bought the SAA, I paid $273 for it brand new in the box. The New Frontier was distinctive because of the adjustable rear sight....................................Kingpin

Another thing about the SAA's is that they shoot forever with one loading. I watched Open Range again tonight for the 10th time and just noticed Kostner fan one 9 shots in a row!! LOL, never saw that scene before. The only other thing that has been missed in this thread, is, that fanning is a definate NO NO for the Colt. It has a habit of shearing off the cocking notches on the hammer. I know, mine was on its 4th hammer when i traded it. Maybe the aftremarkets are better for that, I don't know, I never had one of those.............................Kingpin

I always wanted a new frontier,,,when they were numerus(?),I couldn't afford one,,,now they are less attainable,AND I STILL CAN'T AFFORD 'EM!!!!.Open Range is good,but who do you choose for the lead?Both Costner and Duval are great,if a bit charactured,,,and at the end,the back 'n forth 'tween Costner and the sister was pretty corny,,,good shoot-out,,,I worked with Jimmy Russo,(the sheriff) on a film years ago and he is understated in regular life like in the flick.All of my S/As or leverguns always needed reloading after a few shots,,,I tried fanning once,,,OUCH!!!

I really like Duval. He's my favorite western guy since the passing of the Duke. They sure write good lines for him and he sure knows how to deliver. Costner shot himself in the foot with me when he did the Postman and Waterworld. He's a good actor, but really gets some lousy roles. Like I said, count 'em, 9 shots fanned from his SAA. Well, it was a good shootout, and normally folks wouldn't notice it. I didn't, the first 9 times I saw it...........LOL. That fanning sure is tough on those colts though. How many SAA's do you have? Want to part with one? OH!! Yes, the chat with the sister was corny. Love always screws up a good western. I prefer the ones where the guy kisses his horse and just rides off into the sunset...................................Kingpin
