Hey Folks In a .223 with a 1 in 12 twist and a 22" barrel what grain bullet would do the best. Any good loads out there? Edited by Tikkabuck |

I dont have a 223, but my brother does, Its a Remington with a 1 in 12 twist. He uses it for coyotes and loads 26 gr. of Varget, Winchester Primer, and Winchester cases, Pushing a 55gr. Hornady V Max bullet, This is a near max load in his rifle.

I agree with varmintcaller, I think the 55 grain bullet would be the heaviest that would reliably stabilize out of your barrel. All my .223's are faster twist than that and I've been using heavier bullet than the 55 grains. |

Tikka; I'd certainly try a box of the Hornady 50 gr V-Max bullets If I were you. Powders that work in the .223 & are widely used are BL-C2, Win 748, & Vita N133. 900F |

50 VM's as well as 50 Blitzkings are always worth a try. If you go that way, try 4895 as well as Varg if yer a Hodgdon sorta feller.
You MAY very well be able to shoot 60 VMs in a 12, but probably not any heavier than that. And there's no reason you can't go for 40's. What with the price of metals these days..... |
