Well, I got back up to the range this week. Had to shoot a couple and decide which one to take on the deer hunt next weekend. I took the 308 I had Hart build me, I think I posted pictures back when I got it, but here it is again. I got it last year in the midst of moving and didn't get a chance to shoot it. I still don't have my reloading bench setup, but I had a few different 308 loads stashed away. I grabbed a couple part boxes to get it on paper and see how it feels. This load is one I had for a rifle I don't have anymore. 150gr Herter bullets and surplus 4895! Bullets from the 70s and powder from the 60s probably. I shot this without my lead sled, just off my bag. I wasn't crazy about the MacMillian design I picked this time, but it feels nice while shooting. Looks like it has potential and solidifies my opinion that the 308 is one of the best shooting rounds ever developed.

That looks great to me.
I may not agree on the 308 but how can you complain about a group like that. Good job, the deer had better watch out.Clap

Yep, I always felt that the 308 is one of those inherently accurate cartridges.

M700 action, but what is the overall weight?  looks heavy for me.

congratulations on getting a shooter, I guess hart knows how to build them.

Bear, 700 SA, McMillian stock, 22" Hart fluted barrel, Cerakote Sniper black. I took the Zeiss off that it has on in the picture and put a 3.5-10VX3 on it. It is not as heavy as it looks, not sure exact weight, but not any heavier than my other 700s or Standard Mdl 70s.

Bear, you got me thinking, so I set it on the bathroom scales for kicks and grins. 8.4lbs as you see it. The 7mm08 I had Hart build with the slightly different stock (no monte carlo) is 8.2lbs. For reference my standard out of the box Ruger 77 Hawkeye in 243 with a 2.5-8 VX3 weighs 8.4 also.

8.5 is about average for a 22 inch bolt rifle with scope.

My new rain gun, Hawkeye with 3-9x Leupold weighs right at 8.5#   heavy for me, spoiled by Kimbers
