in this corner, all the way from hungary and imported by C.A.I., a duo-tone pa-63 :

and in that corner, hailing from argentina and imported by R.S.A., a bersa thunder :

lol.

i've got gun parts on their way so the bersa sight situation should corrected by early next week.

i have a nice little cast handload worked up for the mak but have always wanted to get something a little more cc / self-defense appropriate put together.

so, we're going to do a little side by side development.

visited our good friends at midway last night at got some things ordered.  here's what we're going to do.  for the .380, i ordered hornady's 90 gr xtp.  and for the 9mak, hornady's 95 gr xtp.  starline brass will be used for both projects.  as well as hodgdon's titegroup and cci's 500 primers.

tale of the tape indicated this should be a real close fight.  the mak looks to have a marginally larger case capacity, but with the slightly heavier bullet being used, i would imagine we're going to see a pretty even race in velocity.  some of the early data i've scrounged up indicated 1050 fps - 1100 fps as a reasonable target for both projects with near identical powder charges being used.  so that's the level of performance we'll be angling for.

all goofing aside, i've actually come a long way with my attitude towards these kinds of cartridges.  i can remember a time, not so long ago, when i'd have never owned or shot the pip-squeeks.  i still dig the larger stuff, but any more, i find myself enjoying owning and developing handloads for the little guys just as much.

components won't get here in time to get anything shot this weekend, but hopefully by the next, this little comparison project will be underway.
