We hear arguements about the '06 as the best all-round cartridge.

What you fisherman think is the best all round lure?

My choice is the white bucktail jig.

For the type of fishing I do it's a tie between a gold Thomas cyclone and a black/yellow dots panther martin
last in line for the nobel peace prize. first in line for pie

for trout fishing, i like the red and white mepps.

for northerns and walleye, the jointed rapalas are hard to beat.

I like lots of lures, but when I got to thinking about it, the red and white daredevil  with brass back has accounted for brook, brown, rainbow, lake and splake trout, Kokanee, nothern, walleye, small and large mouth bass, crappie, and even got 1 catfish on one once.

With a kill count like that it'ld be pretty hard to displace that one in my tackle box as the best allround.

The most expensive bullet there is isn't worth a plug nickel if it don't go where its supposed to.

Fresh natural bait, either alive or dead, feed'em what they eat.

TNT!

Jig & minnow, white mepps, or white spinner bait.  Depends on what I'm after.

I'd have to say a "safety pin" type spinner with a black jig head and a white twister tail. RD

My favorite lures for  stream trout are Mepps Spinners 0 with silver spinner and red body but for ultra light a 00 mepps I've seen trout hit it when it was several inches above the water.I broke my SIL in with them in MT.He caught a 24" trout with a 0 Mepps Silver spinner red body.

Those O Mepps spinners are deadly on trout.  I cut off two of the three points on the treble and they don't hang up on the bottom nor submerged tree roots.

White feather jig, prefer maribou - probably nylon second.  Caught more fish of more species, world wide, than probably any other lure.  I personally have caught just about everything in both fresh and salt water, can't think of anything else that even comes close.

Pretty close to my experience with a white lead headed busktail jig.  I've used nylon some times, but always feel that the deer hair is not as tough.  My experience is the more that jig is "worn" and bit up....  the better the fish seem to like it?????

Nice to see you posting here TrapperP.  Where you from (generally only)?

Pretty much all over - anywhere close to water and hunting, especially if airplanes are near.  Born and raised in Illinois - way down south between the rivers - traveled for 36 years with a major airline, now live in GA and work as a consultant when it doesn't interfer with my fishing and hunting.

trapper sounds like you got your priorities straight.

Las tyear I got back into trapping again after about 40 years absence.  Gosh, I love that stuff.  i've hunted just about everywhere and fished along the way.  But getting an animal to put his paw into the exact 3 inch circle of my trap (or snare) is just fantastic.

I've sort of combined what I've learned from fishing:

Don't fish unless you are where the fish are.

Present a  bait (dry fly) to the rise.

With what I've learned from hunting:

Never let an animal know you are there .

and make your first shot count.

So now I spend time scouting and studying specific animals rather than putting out 100 traps......4 work pretty good and I know I got him, he just didn't blunder into my trap.

I live/work in PA but last weekend I was in KY, the weekend before TN, the weekend before in VA and this weekend I'll be fishing in NY.  If gas was cheaper and coffe more plentyful, I'd try to get out west more often.

Hope to see you keep posting.

BEAR
