Well after a few weeks since the close of our archery deer season and cabin fever running high, I decided to get after some coyotes.

Been hunting several evenings but hadn't connected, so I attempted a morning hunt.

Headed out to a ridge I had seen them a few times and placed out my caller and decoy.  I then crawled up in my blind and hunted for about an hour or two;

Here's the view from my blind:

Packing a Remington 700 VLS in 22-250 topped with a Leupold Vari-X III 6.5-20X and shooting 55 gr. Sierra BTSP with 36.2 grains of H-380 and a muzzle velocity of 3340 fps.  Plenty accurate and fast enough for these ranges.  You might just barely be able to see my motorized decoy near the crosstrails.

After an hour or two had passed in the cold, 17 degrees with a 15+ mph winds, I opted to go back to camp and thaw out.

Went out again in the evening and since the winds had died, decided to hunt from one of my deerstands that offered a lot of views and where I had seen 'yotes in the past.

Here's the view from my stand looking to the left:

and straight ahead:

and to the right;

In the last picture the field in the upper right portion of the picture is over 600 yards!  Yep, we got thick places here but some wide open spots too as you can tell.

Thought this might give you an idea of the area I hunt the most here back east.

that deer stand looks like a great place to call from.  In my experience 'otes don't like to come up a road, like your first place, to respond to a call...too cautious.  they will parallel the road to get behind the caller.   But the deer stand has some crossing roads and ground cover.  Looks perfect.  Unfortunately each stand has a limited use time, 'otes are not like deer....they remember everything.

The stand site looks like a great place for some traps?

Traps?

I don't know much at all about traps.

A hunting buddy of mine has thought of taking it up though.  You're right about the circling trick BEAR.  First pic doesn't show it but it's nothing but open field behind and downwind of my blind.  Doubtful Mr. Wiley would come through the open field I thought.

Still, I'll just keep after them.
