Looks like I'm going to do a prairie bass / coyote killing trip the first ish part of August.350 miles round trip not to bad in Montana standards.
It's out east Mt to a lake that the bass die of old age, and the coyote have family reunions of several generations. It's so far out in the sticks you need to rope an antelope and ride it to the lake. The hard part is hitching them up to pull the boat. It'll be an over nighter maybe two. In the past we have had 300 fish days, and 4 dogs a day/night. NO ONE EVER goes out there so you got to bring it with you or do with out...
Fun times. It's so dark out there if the moon is down you can see the rings of the "Milky way" and as many as 10 satellites at one time.

I know that side of the state like the back of my hand, but I have no clue
where you are going. I suspect this water is on private land...

NO.
BLM
Straight north of Winett on the dovetail/valentine road like your going to crooked creek but you stay going north when the crooked creek road turns east.
I think it's very near the chimney rock BMA.
you go past Vogel reservoir and south blood reservoir is on the county road. There is a ton of elk out there now, not so many antelope anymore.
PS ever fish bass at war horse or trout at Paola ?

Oh I thought you were talking about "east" eastern Montana. That area
is more central MT in my mind. No I have not fished those areas. I wish
you the best of luck and hope you will have lots of photos to post.

I haven't fished there, but I've hunted near there, when antelope were still around. It doesn't seem like it's that far north of town. I thought they had fire near there couple years back. I didn't realize elk were now that far south, when I was last there, they were still way north and east of there, in the breaks.

I might swing out that way, if I get drawn for Antelope, south of there and see about cow tag, next year.

There used to be fair number of elk above Teigen. I used to hunt elk with pistol between south fork flatwillow creek, north fork FW and surenuf. Couple of good BMA used to be in there.
