Hey max, did the neighbours report you to the police for making a disdurbance?

How did you estimate 802 yards?

Max you have to hit the gates to see if there is an impact.

Macca

don't let the bastards grind you down.

Very good, macca - I missed the jest of max's post. Especially the rear view mirror part and no marks on the tailgate. You're very good at picking up details of his msg. You hotdogs are good.

Gene(gotta be more observant and know when to put on the waders when I read stuff here)

 Macca,

No, we have no readily available police force out there. The Bourbon County Sherriffs deputies regularly patrol the area, oh, about two times per election cycle, or if someone has planted sweet corn close to the road they will cruise by when the tassles are turning to make sure no one else is sampling the crop. But after about 300 shots into the barage began old man Skinner drove up to see what was going on. His hearing is farther gone than mine and so we just shout at one another, shrug our shoulders in mutual wonder at what the other is trying to say, and finally wave good by and leave. Sort of like communications on here...

My method of range estimating:

1. Measure length of normal stride 10 times, then average. I used to average 32 inches per stride. I now get about 8 inches per shuffle, or 4.5 shuffles per yard, if I have on my good boots. So anyone can see that I will shuffle 3609 shuffles over 802 yards, if I don't have to crawl under any fences.( I crawl under fences so that there is no chance of scratching the wood behind the floor plate latch on my rifle with barbed wire). But yesterday I didn't feel like doing that so I just drove away from the old dumptruck (first checking to see that no migrant workers were nesting inthe thing) until I was approximately 800 yards away and then got out and shuffled the last two yards to make it accurate.

Lack of bullet marks on tailgate:

I myself briefly considered the possibility that I had not hit the tailgate even once during all that blasting, but quickly dismissed the idea as impossible. I have read enough posts on here to know that it is common for folks to shoot tiny little groups " all day long" at various ranges, even with Savage rifles, and so naturally concluded that my shots were all right there on that tailgate somewhere, except for that one thru the rear view mirror. That one was an ammo malfunction probably.

I am thinking about going back out there when my ammo supply is topped off again, but shooting from INSIDE the truck bed, in order to more easily find my empties.

Thankyou for your ideas on the above topics.

max.

max, you crack me up!

and on that note, i do have to close this topic. the originator of the topic intended it to be a learning tool and a reference demonstrating what 250 yards looks like to the naked eye and through a scope. i do not normally do things like this, but he has asked me to close it up since it has gone way off into a negative direction, and i will comply with his wish.
