What a nice day yesterday was. 50*,high starting at 28* no wind , no snow, no rain, and partly sunny.
I saw it coming so we had to make a coyote run. We saw doe antelope every were singles looking for places to birth, no fawns, that we saw. At this time of year you can't out run the sun so by 5:00 it was already light. Our firs spot was close to town and a place we have never called. Great spot and looked promising but with the light swirling breeze we could not get any to commit and come in, There was three groups calling back with in several hundred yards, un seen. Driving to our next spot we see 2 road dogs. Most the sets we did turned out that way, which is fine seeing and talking with them is all part of the fun. We ran a cross more gophers than I have seen in years. I managed to shoot a few with the 45 colt. The last set the weather was falling apart a little with small thunder cells drifting in and spraying snow pellets but the wind would drop when they pasted. A BIG wide open section of state we hid the truck and walked close to .5 mile to get hidden. We split up about a 1/4 mile. As The boy is still setting up I see a random coyote sniffing gopher hole on the skyline. I keyed the mic on the talkie's with out saying a word the boy knew what that meant and he hit the dirt. A VERY short time the coyote was close enough for a shot, later I ranged it ay 264 yards. The little 110 at 3500 fps closed the distance instantly, The coyote fell in the spot. We did not say anything to each either as the boy turned on the call, 3 minutes and two more where charging the caller. They where in his quadrant and at 58 yards he pulled the trigger on his 6.5 X54 and we had two laying on the ground. Wat a way to finish. PS we saw 16 coyotes in all all but the two were unshootable. ![]() ![]() .
