Fella's;

After, successfuly, changing the fuel filter on the 07 GMC Duromax diesel, I can without hesitation or remorse report the following:  The white shirt pencil-necked geek, or committee of them, should be castrated with a rusty butter knife.  If any females were involved in the design/placement decisions, then they should be introduced to a rabid Maytag washer, the one with the wringer that the mammary always got caught in.

Love & Kisses to the design crew.

LOL.

Sad truth of the matter is I even stopped caring about doing my own oil changes a long time ago.  Just isn't worth the headache to me.

I look at the conglomeration of controlled chaos that powers my wife's '02 Ford Escape and my '06 F-250 (V10) and go running with pleasure back to the simplicity of my '85 Chevy 4x4.  Gotto love the ole 350's.  Later.  >>  klallen

Klallen;

Who said anything about an oil change?

As for the Escape.  You will have lock problems with it.  Focus, Escape, any Ford product using that lock system, only a matter of time.

I don't change my own any more as I have 2 quick change places a block on either side of me. But, the guys who do change my 1500 Dodge Pick up oil just love it as it has a catch pan under the filter that directs the filter oil to an outlet fairly close to the drain plug. One catch basin will get both streams. Tie that to the fact that my Windshield washer Reservoir holds a full gallon when the warning light comes on and Dodge seems to do the little things right. Now if they could just do something about my lousy gas mileage, 17 with a 2 wheel drive.  RD

Heard there were such problems.  Got a recall notice regarding an ABS sensor just last week, too.  Gotta get that looked into.   We've accepted the fact that it isn't "if" the lock problems will occur, rather "when".  Maybe we'll luck out.  Either way, we'll cross that bridge when we get there.  Later.  >>  klallen

I have changed the oil once in the 2006 Trailblazer. It's not hard, but I am having a heck of a time finding someone to take my old oil. It's easier just to have it changed, then do it myself now. Of course, I am not going to touch the wife's Nissan Maxima at all when I get home. It will probably be my work car, as she took a better paying job in town two weeks ago. No more 80 mile round trips to work.

Well, I thought we where talking about FUEL filters on a GM diesel (not oil).  Anyway, I use to change my diesel fuel filters on my old '81 (350,000 miles and then it started to die.

Fuel filter was a square thing bolted to the frame on a bracket.  Only problem was to be sure to take two wrenches with you under the care at you had to undo the double fittings without kinking the steel fuel line.  Also I use to charge the filter with fuel before installing so the fuel pump and mechanical FI system wouldn't get air bubbles in it.

What makes you new one hard CB?

Don't grouch too much. I have  98 Cummins. The oil filer isn't too bad , but definitely not easy, You must take the Turbo air tube off to get at it. Way easier than my Taco which you have to take two skid plates off.

But now for fuel filters. You have to drain the pressure off the filter, be  a contortonest to get it off, then get it on,then prime the sucker.

The first one I changed, two days later, I had the lift pump go out. About $200. ( 15K miles) I thought I did something wrong, so I have had someone else do it. The other day, I took it in and after the filter chamge, it wouldn't prime.

They stuck a pressure gage on it and  said the lift pump was bad again. ( 85K miles) 5 lbs intead of the 10 lb minimum. I did some research on it and found out from day one, Dodge  knew it was a crappy design , but did not do a recall. Now the lift pump is $400 and I am told it won't last very long, and probbaly my injector pump might be weak now since it has been doing double duty.

Tommorrow I take it in to get an after market lift pump put in with super air and fuel filters and  better pump. $900.

If and when the injector pump goes the pump alone cost $1200 and then there is a big install bill.

At least with the new pump,the filters just screw in from the bottom and only have to be changed every 20K or so. They tell me the OEM one should be changed at least every 10K because of the crappy fuel now days, and the more  resrticted the filter gets, the less you fuel mileage will be

If you have a mechanical injector pump (8 lobe) it can be rebuilt for half the cost.  They chrome plate the chambers and re-machine; new seals and gaskets.  I've had two done over the years.  If electronic FI, I can't help.

I think the Cummins went electric after 1997, but I could be wrong.

If you want to complain about crappy gas mileage Rocky, my 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.2L v8 gets 10.2 when I BABY IT! If I drive it like I am not a 70 year old granny I get 8.1!

Bear,

  We were tlking fuel filters, but after changing the oil filter, I am not going to attempt the fuel filter. Now that I will be driving the Trailblazer when I get home in about a week, heck I may attempt it.

Great to see you coming back Hudge.

My trailblazer/Envoy is easy to change.  But the dam thing doesn't have grease fittings.

Bear,

   The oil filter is easy to change on the Trailblazer, its the oil itself that's the problem for me. So have you changed the fuel fliter on yours yourself? If so, let me know how it went. Seems like mine is due for one when I get home in about 7-10 moe days.
