I want to sight in my new crossbow soon but i don't know what to use for a target. I used to use cardboard boxes but they do a number on the fletchings after a couple of shots and i don't want to spend money on a polyurethane deer target. What i want is something simple that i can make that also stops the arrow from going all the way through. I don't have access to hay bales either so someone give me some ideas please.

If you can sue McDonalds for getting you fat then why can't you sue the alcohol companies for all the ugly people you ended up sleeping with?

I use a commerical bag filled with dacron. It is a nylon woven bag, identical to the new feed/gran sacks. Wide fibers so the arrow actually parts the threads. a grain sack would be perfect. Mine is filled with dacron balls. It is supose to slow down the arrow by 'bumping' the balls not penertationg them. You could use those foam peanuts from shipping or anything soft and pack loose. My crossbow doesn't penetrat more than 10 inches and the fletchings are perfect. The poly foam blocks are not good for high poer arros. My crossbow actually melts the poly and the arrow is 'glued' solid to the target. I shot an elk target in Wyoming at the ranch I was staying at. That arrow could not be pulled out. One ranch hand a BIG guy tried, then got vise grips to help me???? that arrow is still welled into that target. BEAR |
