Bible Study Verses
1 Peter 5:7-9
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. (NIV)

Thoughts
I love to watch videos of animals when they "roar." Better yet, I love to be in the mountains and hear the roar first hand. Bears roar and let other bears know to keep their distance. Coyotes don't roar, but they howl and announce the nightfall and that they are going hunting. Mountain lions scream out their warning and announce their presence. In Africa, when a lion roars, every animal in the area knows to stay out of his way or risk becoming the evening meal. Here's one I don't think you'd normally consider, when the mosquito "roars" you know that he is looking for a place to land and have a meal of your blood. When a rattlesnake "roars" it makes your spine tingle and the hair on the back of your neck stand up. When you hear a hawk scream it just has a sound that shouts "wilderness!" The prey animals in the area go on alert whenever they hear a predator roar. And, like the prey animals, we humans know that we must be extra cautious when we're in an area of dangerous animals and that we must take special precautions to stay safe, especially when we hear the mosquitos roar!
(Cliff S)

Action Point
Roaring is an interesting concept in the Bible. In today's passage we are told that Satan is roaring like a lion and is seeking something to devour or kill, specifically, that something is us! But, roaring is also used to describe how God speaks to Israel and to Christians. God roars in thunder, the sea crashing, waterfalls, and in a myriad of ways. Here's a thought, does Jesus roar that He loves us and that He is seeking us? I believe so. We call Jesus' roaring Christmas and Easter. Twice a year every year Jesus "roars" and calls us to Him. We sing Christmas carols about Jesus' birth and get up early for Easter sunrise services to see the sun "roar" that Jesus has risen and is alive! Here's the difference between God's roaring and that of Satan. We are to resist Satan's roaring and be on our guard to be sure that we don't fall prey to his evil and wicked schemes. But, when God roars, we are to listen to Him, return to Him, and seek His forgiveness, grace, and fellowship. And, remember, if you've accepted Jesus Christ into your life, when God roars, you can be sure that Satan is whimpering in the distance as he runs away!

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Know what dangerous animals are in the area where you are hunting and fishing. In my home state of Arizona we have black bears, mountain lions, and rattlesnakes that pose particular dangers to humans. Oh, and don't forget the scorpions, tarantulas, and the red ants. Be sure to pack food in bear proof containers AWAY from your camp and invest in a good pair of snake leggings to give yourself an edge over the venomous critters you might encounter. And, by the way, those snake leggings do a really good job of keeping cactus spines out of your legs, too. Ask me how I know!

Bible Study Verses
Proverbs 16:9
In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. (NIV)

Psalms 37:23
Stalwart walks in step with Godhis path blazed by God, he's happy. (MSG)

Thoughts
While crossing Skull Mesa with our half Native American guide, Wayne, the trail would totally disappear for some distance. Even with the forest service map and GPS, we'd have to circle out ahead numerous times to pick up the resemblance of a trail to continue. We planned to cross over and be in Cave Creek before dark. But, these detours were crowding our time. With all the modern technology available to us, I was following the Indian home.
(Wes W)

Action Point
Often times in life we just seem to lose our way. We try to make wise decisions, plan ahead, and use modern technology, but life just becomes uncertain. When life becomes uncertain? God is my GPS:
  • G. - God
  • P. - Points
  • S. - Specifically
God directs my paths and my decisions.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Hunting, fishing, and camping are uncertain. In WY there are enough streams & lakes that I don't worry too much about extra water. But, in AZ I've learned to take extra water, sun screen, and even sun glasses. We do get wiser with age and pay attention to the unforgiving elements of creation.

Bible Study Verses
Isaiah 48:6-7
"You heard and saw everything that happened,
so you should tell this news to others.
Now I will tell you about new things,
hidden things that you don't know yet.
These things are happening now, not long ago;
you have not heard about them before today.
So you cannot say, 'We already knew about that.'' " (NCV)

Thoughts
It's fast! It's Quiet! It will laser an arrow to the target! No Shock! No Vibration! Smooth as Butter!

My new bow is in the mail. I can't wait to place my hands on it. I have heard all the good things that is said about it. I just know that this new bow is going to be the best thing I have ever shot. I wonder how it will feel. Will the grip set well in my hand? Will it do all that the company says? The anticipation is so high; I hope I am not let down by my own idealistic dreams.
(Dennis W)

Action Point
According to Isaiah, we have heard all that God has done; and knowing what He has done should make the anticipation for what He is going to do extremely high. We know that He is Creator, Savior and Sustainer.  He is Friend, Comforter and Redeemer. He is Protector, Supplier and Forgiver. Yet God is doing a new thing that we don't even have a clue about. No idealistic dreams here!

"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,"  Ephesians 3:20  (NKJV).

One thing we can never say about God, "Oh, yeah, I already knew that."

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
When hunting deer, it is almost guaranteed that deer will show up from the direction you least expect. Use good scent management, move very little, and continuously scan the area. The deer will show up like a ghost.

Bible Study Verse
II Corinthians 5:17-20

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.  Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,  that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God. (NKJV)

Thoughts

Years ago over lunch, Cap'n Mike expressed to me that he was envious that God had put me into ministry, but not him. Very quickly I straightened him out on that one! Man, you have co-pilots in the cockpit beside you, flight attendants in the cabin behind you, and dozens of passengers and folks in far-away cities and countries, none of whom I'll ever see. You are Christ's ambassador to them. I have my people to minister to, and you have yours.

Well, he packed his flight bag with some of my hunting, fishing and ladies' tracts, plus camo and ladies' Gospels of John, and soon began his ambassador work!

Years later, he has presented the word of reconciliation to 100's around the US and around the world [even some Muslims!]. He is Christ's ambassador, disguised as a pilot! At home, he is an active Gideon and Board Member of my mission board.

As you can see pictured above, he also actively ministers with me at sportsmen's dinners, representing SD and distributing camo Gospels.

When we're ministering together, or when he tells me about a God-sighting from one of his flights, I smile and ask, Hey, didn't you used to fly airplanes for a living?

Action Point

Paul tells us that every believer has been given a ministry by Jesus. It's the same, whether you preach like me, or fly a Gulf Stream jet like my friend Cap'n Mike does [pictured above]. We are both ambassadors for Christ. With other believers and unbelievers, we both have a ministry of reconciliation, carried out by sharing with them the word of reconciliation. Same job -  different work uniform, different work-site, and different people.

There's no pecking order with God. He is no respecter of persons. None of us are any more nor any less important than any other brother, in God's work.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day

When you hunt, fish or hike, load your pockets with more than ammo and snacks. God's Great Outdoors has great camo Gospels of John. Christian Bowhunters of America carries wonderful hunting and fishing tracts. Stock up. Remember, we are Outdoor Ambassadors.

Today's Photograph.... Dragonfly (NPS)

Bible Study Verse
Psalms 51:10-13
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you. (NIV)

Thoughts
I'm not a great fly tier, but I do enjoy making flies and then catching fish with something I created. The bigger the fly pattern the better for me, I can use a bigger hook and have more material to work with. I like making dragonfly nymphs. They are fairly large and very productive when it comes to fishing. What fish won't eat a dragonfly nymph? I have been successful using them on trout, bass, pan fish, and even bullheads.

The life cycle of a dragonfly is very interesting. They go from aquatic to terrestrial, not unlike a lot of other insects. Once they hatch from their egg in the water, they are in the nymph stage for a period of time eating those pesky mosquito larvae. When they emerge from the water, they become the colorful adult dragonflies you see patrolling the water's edge.
(Ron T)

Action Point
When we become Christians we go through quite a change as well. We are born again and the old us is gone forever. Our job after we emerge is pretty simple. Mark 16:15 says, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation," (NIV). We all have our own little territory in "all the world" so that's a good place to start. If you're not sure what to say, just keep it simple. You might try, "Jesus changed my life, and He can change yours too." After that, be prepared to share your testimony if the opportunity presents itself.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
When fly tying nymphs, use a bead head on some of them. The bead has some weight to it, will get the fly down to where the fish live a little faster, and keep it there in the strike zone.

Happy 242th Birthday, America!

Let us honor God first and then the Red, White, and Blue!

Bible Study Verses
Romans 12:10-11

As to brotherly love, kindly affectioned towards one another: as to honour, each taking the lead in paying it to the other:  as to diligent zealousness, not slothful; in spirit fervent; serving the Lord. (Darby Translation)

Thoughts
Today is the day we Americans celebrate our costly freedom. Each and every family has lost precious family members who have fought, returned with physical and emotional scars or died for our heritage and our freedom. In honor I say "THANK YOU" to those who gave their lives, those who have served, and those who are serving in the United States armed forces. What an honor it is to be an American and to be blessed with our freedoms that are in jeopardy.

The privilege of hunting is one freedom that we never thought might be taken from us without our consent. It is a current threat here in America. In my family, we eat what we hunt. In these slim times, we thank God for the food and the health to seek it. The money we spend for a hunting license and the tag goes to wildlife conservation. Before this was in place, many a deer died from starvation from a severe winter and a lack of food. This is a cruel death.
(JQ)

Action Point
Many have given their lives to protect and to preserve our freedom. One life is so precious and the highest price to pay. Our military serve with the right spirit. Today take the lead by sincerely voicing appreciation, shaking hands, and saying "THANK YOU" to anyone who has served or is serving in the military.

We are not being told by the liberal media what is going on and why the amount of crime that has prevailed here in America. Human trafficking, drug trafficking, organ harvesting, the Senior Executive Service and the worship of Satan/Lucifer should wake up those who are sleeping. The choice is ours!!!

Remember, Jesus Christ paid the price for our eternal freedom with His life. Then in His infinite wisdom, He lives within our hearts and walks us through this life to Heaven. He will never leave you, forsake you, and has promised to always love you while meeting your every need. What an awesome win, win freedom. You have one requirement. You have to ask Him to forgive you for your sins and accept His free gift of salvation.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
As important as the role of the president is, it is not up to the president to make sure that we remain a "good" nation, a "Christian" nation. That task is up to us. We the people will determine what is "good". We are the ones who can call the nation to revival, to turn, and to be saved. We need to be sure that those who represent us represent our values (as well as our position on hunting and fishing). It' going to take everyone of us to pray, to fast, and to change this country's leadership back to those we can trust and follow.

Today's Photograph: . . .Boys On The Playground (UFWS)

Bible Study Verse
Acts 1:8
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywherein Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (NLT)

Thoughts
The two bucks started with a simple scuffle. It was nothing serious, kind of like two boys on the playground. The two young bucks continued and the fight intensified.

Soon, what I was witnessing was an all-out brawl. One deer would push and shove the other backwards. Then the second deer would grab his footing and return the favor. They pushed, twisted, and flailed until I thought they would break each other's neck. The power displayed was enormous.

Finally, the exhausted deer broke apart and one was left alone, victorious.
(Dennis W)

Action Point
Some people love the power in cars, others seek power from their jobs, and many take power in relationships.

Power is one of the temptations that Satan used. He promised Jesus, the Creator of the entire universe, all the kingdoms of the world if Jesus would bow down and worship him.

Yet all the power we ever need for everything we face is found in the Holy Spirit. God Himself is living inside us, empowering us to live for Him. Those of us who are in Christ Jesus don't need the power from an outside source.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Some guys will opt for power out of the archery equipment instead of accuracy. (It is fine in the summer on the range in a t-shirt.) Be sure you aren't pulling too much poundage out of your bow. When it comes to the moment of truth and a monster steps out in an awkward place, you must be able to draw the only weapon in your hand.

Bible Study Verse
Hebrews 12:1
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run  with perseverance  the race marked out for us. (NIV)

Thoughts
When I think of running, I think about pronghorn antelope. Now, they can run. As the second-fastest land mammal in the world, they can hit speeds of more than 60mph, only bested by the African cheetah.

I have known a few unethical hunters that thought a Chevy 350 could outrun them. One in particular was gaining on a herd of antelope just before he hit the prairie dog mound that put an end to the chase. After several hundred dollars of repairs and a fine for harassing wildlife, he learned that stalking was a much better method for hunting antelope.
(Ron T)

Action Point
God gave the antelope great speed and eyesight to avoid predators. God has given us the Holy Spirit, and spiritual gifts and He does not want us to be ignorant of those gifts (I Corinthians 12:1). By keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus and staying in God's Word, we can avoid those things that entangle us and prevent us from crossing the finish line of the race He has marked out for us.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Antelope are very curious animals. If you have a chance to archery hunt antelope, you can get them into range by using a decoy. You can buy a decoy at most hunting stores, or make your own decoy by using ¼" plywood, cutting out a silhouette of an antelope and painting it the correct colors.

Bible Study Verse
Genesis 3:12
The man said, "The woman You put here with me-she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it." (NIV)

Thoughts
Boy, does this verse trigger thoughts. Do you remember saying something like this to your parents, a teacher, or maybe to a Game Warden? "My hunting partner told me to do it, he said it was OK." Kind of sounds like Flip Wilson's famous statement, "The devil made me do it!"

Yep, good old Adam invented the oldest line ever used to shift blame to someone else for his own actions. First he tried to lay the blame at God's feet for putting the woman there, and then he blamed the woman. Wait a minute, who did God give the command to? Right again, it was given to Adam. Genesis 2:16-17 reflects, "And the Lord God commanded the man, 'You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die,' "(NIV).

Adam should have known better than to have eaten the fruit of the forbidden tree, but he went along with the crowd, so to speak. He did something dumb and then tried to blame everybody else for what he did.
(Cliff S)

Action Point
Take responsibility for your actions, good or bad. In the long run it will serve you better to admit your mistake(s) than to try to cover them up or to blame somebody else for what you did. Remember, your sins will find you out!

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Review the regulations for where you are going to be hunting or fishing and follow them. The Officer that checks you will appreciate you being familiar with game and fish laws and obeying them.
