We usually don't discuss religion often, but the major
failure of the American catholic church to prevent sexual abuse over at least
70 years is appalling. The failure takes two parts: The actual attacks/molestations/abuse. AND The high level coverup, by the US Catholic administrators and the Vatican. When Wurl was bishop everyone knew he was part of the abuse
problem and the local papers covered it.
Vatican’s response was to promote him twice. Eventually he was made the #1 Cardinal in charge of the US in
Washington I now think of the US catholic church and the Vatican as on
a level below the KKK. It is time to STOP THEIR
TAX EXEMPTION. |

Some of the greatest (worst?) abuses, have been carried out, in name of (under cover of) religion.
Of the major religions, at least the abuse (In Catholic religion), isn't approved and promoted by doctrine/teachings, is still considered a sin. |

Turning a blind eye/promoting it is a sin?!
![]() As with most religions,(I said most), with popularity, power and greed become a factor. I've had this argument repeatedly with my buddy Darren,(ex-minister), and the local Catholic schools deans, all clerics, when a question poised for thesis of a few of the students I was tutoring was, who is responsible for the greatest atrocities to man. They were expecting answers like Hitler and the like, not religion like I told those writing their thesis posed. None of them could argue that point. They all graduated with honors....I considered it one of my best moments. |

...I should also point out that for all the bloodshed and corruption, faith and beliefs are what make us who we are....hopefully for the better. It's when the devil inside twists and distorts our faith and values, things like this happen. They happen way to much.

Sorry, I don't believe in the devil. Most people are evil, the threat of laws and the devil keeps some of those in-line.
I think the 'Godfather" said .....religion, crime the same thing. I like to add government into that group.

I thought, I was jaded, I guess it depends on how you define evil.
I would say most people, are basically good or at least wouldn't go out of their way to harm someone else. I would say maybe 5% actively seek out ways, to get over on others, another 20% would, if they thought they could get away with it, maybe another 20% would help others, if they thought they would be rewarded somehow, another 5% would actively seek to help others, the rest just want to be left alone and neither seek out to help nor harm others, unless required to. The ones that are truly EVIL, would have to be less than 1% or at least I hope so. |

I agree with Robert. I think most people are good.
That being said, I also think it somewhat depends where in the world you are. I think the percentages of people that would take advantage of others misfortunes increases in some parts of the world. Wing master
