Tailgating Meatballs

Ingredients for Meatballs

1 pound Purnell’s “Old Folks” Sausage
1 pound ground beef
1/2 cup plain dry bread crumbs
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup finely chopped onions
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Ingredients for the Sauce

3/4 cup spicy brown mustard
1/2 cup apple butter
1/3 cup Bourbon
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and black pepper – to taste
Hot pepper sauce – to taste

How to prepare

Pre-heat your oven to 275 degrees. Combine and mix all the meatball ingredients in a large mixing bowl and form them into 1 ˝ inch balls. Place them on an ungreased baking sheet and bake about 30 minutes or until browned and cooked throughout. Meatballs may be frozen and reheated at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes.

For the sauce, combine all the ingredients in a large skillet. Stir until well-blended and add cooked meatballs. Coat with sauce and cook about 5 minutes until sauce has thickened slightly. You can also put the sauce and the meatballs in a crock pot and serve directly from it. Set the crock pot on high heat for two hours and then switch to warm or low setting to serve.

Makes about 50 meatballs.
