I bought my crosbow about 20 years ago, a Horton, paid about $185.  killed over 2 dozen deer and antelope with it.

Needed some new bolts/arrows.  so started looking abount.

Horton was purchased by 10Point.

Their present latest crossbow is only a mere $2550??????????

Seems to me for this I could buy a Kimber or Weatherby rifle and a Leupold scope.

But obviously folks are buying them??????????????????

Yes, and yes. Not really sure why anyone would spend that much on such a short ranged weapon for game....just can't see it.

I just did a quick check and found 30 crossbow packages, between $200 and $400, that would work fine for deer. A lot of bow hunters, as they age and injuries pile up, are switching to crossbows. Quite a few states allow crossbows, during archery season, I'm not sure if I agree with that. I also remember 30yrs ago, many felt the same way about compound bows.

I see as many or more bow hunters, taking too long of shots, with compound or long bows, as crossbows.

I had to give up bow hunting 20yrs ago, besides the injuries piling up, I didn't have enough practice time. I switched to handgun, for many of the weapon restricted areas, if crossbows would've been legal option, I might have chosen them instead. Many former bow hunters take up BP for same reasons and then flintlock vs in-line discussion comes up.

Crossbows at the rate of $1k-$2k is pretty silly...unless you have too much Dinero!..try getting any return on a used one. At least the Kimber or Weatherby or most any quality firearm will Appreciate over time.

My Horton is 20+ years old...still works for me.  Hunted it yesterday, and I'm out today with it.  22 oF.
