Guys -

I just heard from Garou. 900F got in a bad accident on
his motorcycle today. He is at the ICU at Benefis
Hospital.

Minor injuries plus some bleeding in lung. Worst part
is bleeding on the brain. He is on a blood thinner
because of the stent in heart. Not a good combination.
He is not in a coma and is somewhat responsive. They
have a plan for treatment but Garou is not wild about
it.

Pray.

Ron

I talked to Garou late last night. Nothing has really
changed. They aren't sure what happend their were no
witnesses.

He has a broken left wrist and left arm, a few broken
ribs but, they are mostly concerned with the bleeding on
his brain. He is not unconcious but not real responsive.
(I took that as a good sign.)

It sounds like he's not out of the woods yet, but it
could be worse.

Hey, guys - here are some more details and an update,
from Garou:

Quote My dad is in intensive care. Yesterday [May
5th], around noon, he was involved in a single vehicle
motorcycle accident. While the Ducati is banged up
pretty good, it's not nearly as damaged as its
operator. A broken left wrist & humorous, shattered
right clavicle, and multiple broken right side ribs
are the minor injuries; bleeding in his right lung and
brain are the serious injuries which are compounded by
his having been on Plavix, a blood thinner, for the
stints he had inserted a couple months ago. The latest
CT scan indicates that the brain hemorrhaging is not
currently severe enough to require opening the cranium
to relieve pressure, yet, and we are hoping it stayed
that way. He will most likely need orthopedic surgery
to reconstruct and plate the shattered collar bone at
some point....

Mile marker 39 of MT HWY 89 South bound just north of
Niehart, MT is where the accident occurred. Excessive
speed was NOT a factor, nor was alcohol involved
according to MTHP. He was wearing a helmet, leather
coat, gloves, jeans, and boots; his normal riding
attire. He is alive due to his responsible clothing
and gear choice.....

(Later)

The suspected fractures to his left arm and wrist have
been xrayed & proven to not be broken. Orthopedic
surgeon has also determined that the collar bone won't
need surgery after all. He has periods of restlessness
during which he can minimally respond to commands such
as moving specified limbs/digits. This is particularly
encouraging as it indicates increased brain function.

That's what I know for now - prayers continue!

Hi, guys -

Sorry to take so long to respond. Long weekend.

I was able to see Jim on Saturday evening. He is still in the ICU. He was awake and seemed somewhat aware, but not very responsive. I think he knew who I was and could understand me, but could only move his head and hands a bit. He seemed very tired. He is on pain medication, but not sedatives.

I told him that a lot of folks are pulling for him and praying for him here on the BSB, and read him the messages that have been posted so far on this thread. I visited for a while about other things, as well. I'm not sure how much he was with me, but I am sure that it did him good to hear these things.

I talked with the nurse, also. Because of the Plavix, they decided not to evacuate the bleeding on brain, but decided to let it abate on its own. They did stop the Plavix and installed a clot filter to keep any clots from forming. She said that he is slowly improving. Yesterday, they were scheduled to start weaning him off trachea tube. She showed me his helmet and it was in pretty bad shape. Greg showed up too, and we talked a bit. He said that Saturday had been a very good day, and that improvement has been very much in the right direction, but is slow. He showed me a couple of photos from the crash site, and it is evident that his driving skills and protective clothing definitely saved his life, along with the some very good medical attention on the scene and at the hospital.

So, one step at a time - but thankfully in the right direction.

UPDATE

CB's condition remains about the same. He is still in
ICU. Seems we have a wait and see game now. Prayers
and thoughts could be important.

A number of people on this board have asked about
personally or as group sending flowers to the
hospital. No flowers are allowed in the ICU, and jim
probably could not appreciate them AT THIS TIME.

When he improves and can understand, I think cards
from all his friend here would be great.
I did send a card from all his friends here at BSB.

Having had family members with bad head injuries I can tell you that patience is paramount. Brain injuries take much longer than other physical injuries to heal. One of my relatives was in Acoma for over 6 months and it is not like you see on TV where they are in Acoma and wake up and start talking, it is a gradual process that can take a long time as the brain rewires itself. Progress is also not a steady thing it sometimes goes real good and then just stops for a while and then picks up again. It can be real frustrating for the family. The biggest thing is to not give up and to make sure that CB don't give up. Payer will continue!!

Talked with Lorry May 31. Friend Jim possibly improving in small steps. He
spoke Sat. morning and is breathing completely on his own. He has a
talking valve on his tracheostomy collar and they are trying to wean him off
the thing but he first has to prove he can swallow. Starting to keep his eyes
open for extended periods of time, seems to have recognized daughter
Renee, said her name when she was trying to verbalize with him. The main
goal at this point is to get him off the trach apparatus. They're starting to
work on cognitive therapy, will respond with yes or no to nurses as they
question him, will keep you posted as to when and where he will be moved -
things are progressing enough to where they are contemplating that. Also
is starting to move both hands to better pick at his tubes...The people
needing support also are Lorry, Renee, and Greg. Cards periodically to all
of them sent to Lorry is perhaps a thought. Will get back to all as soon as I
have something to report. Tom

Had breakfast with Greg Tues 6th, and talked with Lorry about 7 on the 8th.
Jim is having some really good days, he is isn't hooked up to anything but the
feeding tube, he is being weaned more or less presently from that, has started
receiving ice chips, is "talking up a storm" as Lorry puts it even though he can
only whisper, starting to gesture using both hands but the right side is slow
yet, they got him up without using the Hoyer lift. He was able to swivel from
the side of the bed into his chair for the shower, I'm told this is a really big
deal, so he can help the nurses and follow directions, and so on. Steady
progress. He will go to a transitional facility here in GF, probably Park Place,
will confirm this later as I will talk with Lorry probably Mon evening. Any notes
or cards send them thru Lorry at the Ranch address. Tom

Very grateful to hear this news. Progress in the right direction is the progress we want, and things will get better each day, I reckon.

Continued prayers and support - keep fighting, CB ~ those gophers really need to be reminded who's boss!

Lorry tells me that Jim will be transferred to GF most likely Thurs pm. I'll talk
with her probably Fri am and pass on any particulars after that conversation.
When we can visit Jim, he will be at Park Place Health Care Center, 15th. Ave

Wen"t to see Gentleman Jim this morning at Park Place Health Care, Room 613
Transitional Care Unit, 15th. Ave. So. and 32nd.   Lorry thinks if you wish to
visit, anytime OK on weekends, but afternoons on weekdays because of
therapy sessions in the morning. I was pleased that Jim recognized me, and
can talk a bit and respond. Son Greg is an excellent caretaker of his father.

Good to hear!

Has he asked for a window bi-pod mount yet, or is it too soon for those type actions?

Good wishes and prayers your way Jim!
