Well, I got my work cut out for me. Gotta find the loads that these 2 like.
Black one is a Model 7 Rem in 260. It has a 2.5-8 VX3 on it, for now, it might change, not sure yet Other one is a Kimber Hunter in 257 Roberts. 3-9 Zeiss Conquest. Both ordered NIB. The Kimber will eventually be Cerakoted. The shop that's doing it is pretty busy and I got sick of waiting for it, so I went and picked it up today. I have the next 11 days off so I wanna shoot it! They are both very light and handy. Can't wait to touch 'em off and start the search for their pet loads!260.jpg Kim.jpg |

He did IBD...did some wheelin and dealin! Also, worked a few deals for some new scopes...a couple VX3s, a couple Zeiss Conquest and a Burris 6-18 for my 220 Swift (still waiting for that). So I will have a busy winter dialing things in and playing with all my toys! No use having nice rifles with 50cent scopes. Now the fun work begins! |

I'm not sure what your plans are for these rifles, but if a heavy bullet in your .257 Roberts is what you're looking for my load might be a good place to start.
33.5 grains of 4064 behind a 117 grain Sierra Pro Hunter. This load is an absolute tack driver in my model 70 featherweight. I hope this helps. Wing master

Thanks for the loads guys. I have 2 other 257s, my Pre64 doesn't go hunting and the 700 Classic is kind of heavy so I don't take it out much. This one I plan to hunt with. Powder selection here does not include 4064, one of the few I don't have. But pretty much everything faster and slower around it! I have bullets from 87-120gr. Although I do prefer the heavier bullets I will try the lighter ones and see how they shoot, but personally 100gr is where I set my minimum. I traded a Savage 260 for this one, so I have some loads I had for that. I was not very fond of the Savage so I didn't shoot it much, but it did shoot pretty good. I have 120, 129 and 140s for it. Again, pretty good selection of powders, but it has a 20" barrel so I think I will lean toward the faster burning selections. Most of the newer load data uses 4350type powders and slower, but they are all using 22" barrels and longer. I think barrel length makes a difference in powder selection. Send on the load data guys...gives me something to go with!

Been shooting Hornady 123 g SST in my 260 rem. Works great, went with the lighter bullet for velocity and got sub moa accuracy. Shot 2 antelope with it; longest 332 lasered yards DRT.

Well I had three with each having a range finder. Three rangefinders, 3 very different yardages shouted out. You wouldn't think those high tech devices could be so different!

I'd suspect the various readings from those "high tech" rangefinders might be traced back to maybe where they fell in the price range...you can buy them from around $150 or so to over or nearly $1k...quality/accuracy is certainly related to cost. Also, maybe each of them had a different maximum range rating or....just maybe....operator shakes/error??????? anyway you look at it, 300yds or more on a target as small as an antelope is a darn good shot! 'specially fer an old Bear! |

Don't rule out 300 yards for old farts like IBD and Bear.
The readings were the result of guys different height above the ground. Shorty said 110 Yards (weeds reading), medium guy said 200 Yards (small sapling reading0. Tallest fellow said 320 yards (true reading). In this Morass of information I keep changing my hold...finally as I had decided to just hold dead on with my 150 yd sight-in. someone said "just hold dead on". Which I did...and hit 10 inches low, right under the heart. 123 gr SST went in breaking a rib 2 inches from the sturnum. Then followed the offside ribs to midpoint where it took out two more ribs on exit. DRT. Next day I pasted off the distance 322 yards...always trust the tall dude...the view up there is better. |

I'm pretty sure at least one of your "spotters" added some "operator error".
He gets buck fever even when someone else is doing the shooting. Great shot Bear. Never underestimate the older guys. Wing master

Picked up a turkish .410 over under. My friend said i needed it to shoot ducks in Idaho. I also got a siamese mauser in .45/70. It was refurbed by federal firearms before i got it. It's a real beast, and though not a tack driver, it shoots well enough, like minute of deer. Though it doesnt belong here, i will add a model 657 .41 mag, a parker shotgun, a 4" model 28 .357, a 5 screw S&W pre model 10 and a stainless colt 1911 with 2 stainless mags. No doubt a couple more migrated in too, but these are the stand outs

Love those Smith 57, even the SS models 657. Got my son one for his 16th birthday, 6" bbl. He has killed busk and wild boar with that gun, sweet.

As we learned at the S&W factory, any revolver that isnt a S&W, is a dead mans gun. What i learned there is why i got rid of my colt python. I have a dozen S&W revolvers these days, and i am particularly proud of my model 17 in .22 rf. Such a joy to shoot it, along with all the others. For whatever the reason, the little .22 gives me a lot of satisfactiom
