Muleskinner,

I've seen ya mention Merlin a few times, is this some magical beast with huge horns and fang's, or is he just a spirit thet walks the woods?  I figuire ya might have a few good stories to tell about him.

Merlin is a bona fide monarch (?) elk I seen many times while guidin' hunters. I've had several clients in on him with shots, but he allays manages to git away. One feller was waitin' for him to step out from behind a small tree at 30 yds when his nephew shot a 5x5 where we left him to wait. Another guy couldn'd see him on a hillside with 30 or so cows with the sun glarin' in his face (I had my sunglasses on). Another guy shot a smaller bull when merlin was headin' straight at him with his girls. Something allays keeps that elk alive, so we started callin' him Merlin a couple years back. He's real, and dark faced, and can bellow like a Mack truck. I know where he hangs out.   Gonna shoot him myownself while these other boys from shooters go after cows. In early season, we could all fill out on the first day, but that would mean a hell of a lot of work and a quick trip.

Merlin lives on Vancouver Isle. He is a Roosevelt elk...without a word of a lie I saw 7X8 and he would have easily dressed 800+ lbs.The base of his antlers were like the thickness of my leg.!! Had at least 20 cows and he showed himself to me for only 30 sec.He made noise that set my hair on end for days.

However , it is strict LEH only and I never seem to get drawed... when I do not sure if I will track him down ifin he is still alive, thats if I could ever get a decent shot.

By god I'm takin' a camera with me, an' I know how to make them 'lectric pictures now.  If tash can figur out how we can post picturs right off, I'll show you what a spook bull is 'sposed to look like 'bout the las' week of September.  Oh god, what if he's dead?  Now I done cooked my own goose.  If I do kill Merlin, every other bull will be a let down, an' I'll probly jus' kill cows from now on.
