Some of you may or may not know, but I own 125ac in Maine. The far NE part of the state right near the New Brunswick border, it is surrounded by @30000ac of company land that's open to hunt. We have had it for about 15yrs, used it mostly to run my dogs in the past, but haven't been there in several years due to busy schedules and the 11hr ride. Well my cousin asked if he and his boys could go check it out for bears. I said have at it, I know there are tons of bears there, along with moose, rabbits and some deer. He went up, set a big pile of bait and hung a camera. Went back up this week for the opener and muffed a chip shot (he's kind of notorious for getting "buck fever" and missing.) Anyhow, he sent me a couple pictures from cameras. Thinking next year going up with him, my dad and Uncles and trying to get a few sites setup. I am not crazy over shooting a bear, but the big deal is my boys can both hunt and the season starts before school so we are in!! Long season from last weekend in Aug to last weekend in Sept., hunt over bait and lots of bears. On the homefront we have 6 or so bears coming in everyday, just gotta play the games with the law here. Looks like there are more bears around here than deer!! Here are a few pictures of the Maine bears visiting the bait.

Maine is great for bear hunting. I've hunted Aroostock regon, Allasgash, Kennebeck, Moosehead and Washington county. Last bear was near Calais, just across the St. Croix river in NB.
Do your dogs run bears? love that sound of the hounds going over the mountain ridges.

Beautiful area. I drove thru there one time on way to Campobella Island. Maine back country is really great, ponds, rivers, game.

Moose tags are next to impossible to get. I applied for 15yrs+ and gave up. Once in a lifetime draw. I know guys, Maine residents, that took 30yrs to get one!!

My boy got a Moose tag, His wife got a Moose tag. His wife got a River brakes sheep tag. I got a River brakes rifle Bull Elk tag. All once in a life time tags.

If I could pick just one of the limited draw tags, it would be a Bighorn sheep tag. Newfoundland is the place to go for moose. The best bang for the buck, couple buddies have been a handful of times and said it was well worth it.

I speak fluent NOOF!....after a bottle of bourbon and a half a case of beer!
Heard it is the place to go, but thats a hoof from here. Heading that far north I might want a white rug to go with it. Wonder how tough it is to get a rack back to the states....or a rug?

JSG, Noof is a shag, bringing meat, antlers, etc back is no big deal...in non-covid times anyhow. The tag draw is a pain. There are tons of moose in ME, I see them all the time when I'm up there, big bulls too. But my guess is the draw is tough and that's why there are lots of moose. Bears are everywhere too, but given the choice I would pick moose meat over bear any day of the week!!
