Leopold vx-freedom 4-12x40 cds scope is what I have now on my 8MM RM.
Nice scope, I had to get an average speed for my hunting load. I did it today there reloader 26 and 200 gr Shock Hammer HP copper. I shot 6 and average speed is 3260 fps.
I send in all the vitals like BC altitude temp, sight in distance, height over the bore.
I get the first set free, any other caps, as in different load there $80.
I also have a good load for Sierra 220 gr at 3100 fps that I'll order later after I use these and see how they work out.
I should have them before hunting season.
Clap
PS the hammers are 60 fps faster than my pet Barnes load with the same powder charge.
I have not tried any 500 yards shot with the hammers yet but with the Barnes I was getting around a 5 inch group at 500 yards. I hope for the same with the hammers, the Barnes are just Non excitant anymore.Ouch

Big smile   I got them today!Clap
They go up to 750 yards, that's a LONG poke.
This month is all tied up with appts and guard work.
But hope to get out and try them out to about 500.
One of my free days will be spent setting barrels on the two project guns. I only have a 3 day window with the rented head space gauges. That has to match up with the boys 3 days off between fires.
Thumbs Up

BeerOK I put them on and went out looking for a place we could shot 500 yards. Not an easy task the grass is SO long , laying down and shooting off bags Is an issue in 3 foot tall grass.
We found an abandoned railroad track bed shooting gently up drainage. there was a rock out cropping at 300 yards and 500 yards, prefect. The wind was very light but blowing over our shoulder slightly to the right. You would not think a 200 gr bullet going over 3200 fps would move much but at 500 yards it does move. After a shot at our 300 yard gong and seeing there is a little drift. When I dialed up 300 yards I hit it ever time an 8"x 8" gong.
We set up 10 one gallon milk jugs at 500 yards, 495 actually. My cap goes up by 10 yard marks I tried 490 and it hit just under the jug. I moved it up to 500 and Bang Pop. So went the other 9 jugs.
DAMN 10 for 10 at over a 1/4 mile. I'm very impressed... That's a 6"x6" target Shocked. Happy camper here.

That's cool D.

I have been thinking about getting a set of those caps for a couple of my rifles. It's good to know they work. That would be easier than having a MOA chart taped to the stock.
I have always considered myself to be quite the bullshitter, But ocasionally it is nice to sit back and listen to a true professional......So, Carry on.

Here I'm bragging up my new set up...
I wanted to confirm my 100 yard zero before bear season.
I had it prefect and using the caps to shoot milk jugs at 300 and 500 yards was right on.

I ran out and set my target board at 100 yards from the tip of mu rifle.
The cap was still set on 300 so I dialed back to 100. I set up on my shooting table and sand bag with a small squeeze bag under the stock.

I eased off two shots, at over $2 a shot just for conformation I went only with two.

I walked out to the target with full intention of loading it back up.
BUT wrong, here were two holes about touching but 10" low???

Well so much for saving $$$ and bullets.
I did not have my Allen to pull the cap and adjust it. Back home and ran out later with my old cap. I fired again, same so I upped it to make it zero again, re set the cap.
Back home I went.

But it nagged at we for three days, and nights.
SOOO
I was heading out again. Shot again.
Dam it at 100 I was 10" high, WHAT?
First thought was a defective scope.
It was still tight and looked straight.
I was thinking of problems and happened to lean against my bench. It moved not the legs the top.
It is a homemade bench out of 2x4s with a plywood top, covered with upholstery fabric.

I tightened all the bolts and added some deck screws, It's much stiffer now like when it was new 15 years ago.

Back out I go.
so far I'm 15 shells in to the conformation thing.
With the bench all firmed up the first three shots made a prefect clover leaf with the centers touching. Clap

I'm guessing it was the bench all the time, moving.
When we were shooting the milk jugs we where laying down.
I'm going on that assumption and calling it good for bear season.
I do have to order some more Hammer bullets and see if I can get some more loaded.Ouch
