Thought this might be an interesting topic, when I was a bit younger I was shootin an average of 14,000 rounds a year.  YUP!  And only about 1k of those were 22 shells.

Anyway today I shoot around 1,500 to 2000 rounds of shotgun, and around 250 to 500 rounds of High Power.  Don't have enough pistol brass to mention shootin.

No where near those kinds of numbers here. I am just starting into the rifle thing and year to date i am at about 400 for my 223 and 100 for my 243. go through about 3 cases of shotgun shells a year. usually use one for preseason warm up. one for pheasant hunting and one for quail hunting.

when i was in my prime. we would shoot every sunday morning. next to a church. until the pricher got pissed off. but we would start about 8 am and shoot till dark.  i would shoot 500 or so .357 then got to the 44 about the same. then it was the ar. probably 1000 rds. the flash supresser would be green by the end of the night.  1 sunday i put 1200 rds through a dan wesson i had just gotten. and as far as shot shells i would go through maybe a 1000 a week shooting black birds. now i load up everything at the first of the year and that sometime is enough to last all year. 500 .308s 2000 44 mag.  now the kids are shooting more than i am. they will go through 1500 each of 22 lr. matthew and his 22-250 2-300. and nathan and his 30/30 1 doy he put 60 rds through it.he has put about 300 rds through it and he has had it since april. now he is finding out that that box of bullets has a bottom. and powder dosent last forever.

I haven't the slightest idea how many rounds of rimfire and centerfire I shoot in a year.  Never found a reason to keep track of such things.  I suppose best answer to the question would be     ...     enough rounds to get accomplished what my goals are.  Later.  >>  klallen

I don't have a round count right off hand. I do know, I shoot cast bullets in pretty much everything, and went through just over 350 lbs. last year. Of course, a Sharps rifle eats that pretty fast, as do .45 ACP's.

hmmm... no idea. probably go thru (these are approximate) 20-25 rimfire 22's each year (no, i really don't care for rimfire shooting), perhaps 400 or so handgun, maybe another 200-300 w/ a shotgun, and centerfire rifle would have to be very close to 5-6,000 per year, but i don't know.

Hunting is not a matter of life or death; it is much more important than that.

For many years, I was shooting 3000+ rounds of centerfire a year and about double that in rimfire. Shotgun never exceeded 750 rounds. But recently my shooting has dropped off a bit. I shot 1200 rounds of centerfire in 2002, and only 2000 rounds of rimfire. I did not even shoot my shotgun last year! I changed that this year, went to a trapshoot and shot 350 rounds.Regards, Eagleye.

Waksupi,

Man that's a good deal of lead what kind of smelter / caster do you use?

Klallen,

I use to keep count so I new how many rounds went through each rifle (approx.)  I like polishin the bore instead of cleanin it once I get between 500 to 1000 rounds.  Also depending how hot the gun is I like knowing when the barrel is gonna get burned out.  When your shootin thet much anything hotter then a 223 can eat a barrel in a couple three years.  I usually put 2k rounds through each of my rifles just finding the loads they liked and practicin at "all" ranges with them.  One the 25-06, and 300 Win Mag I was shootin long haul with that number nearly doubles.  Usually had 3 to 4 different rifles to play with a year, Shot like Mr. Mom with my 44. Had a couple of them.  Last one was a smith 29 with a near 8" barrel - longest I ever shot with that was 200yds with iron sites at a 12" square plate.  Hit it 3 out of 6 times!  Just love shootin - don't get to do it enough anymore.

Morning SS  >>  You knpw, I'd never considered keeping track of rounds through the barrel until I got on chat sites like these.  Then it seemed like everyone was counting or at least monitoring in some fashion.  Maybe January 1st, 2004 I'll start up a count.  Or not.  We'll have to see.  >>  klallen

Spot Shooter - First off, I had a finger run away. That should read 250, rather than 350.

I have a cut off propane tank I can clean wheel weights in at a pretty large amount at a time. I have several places that give me the WW's. I keep stocking up before the EPA shuts us down from getting them.

I cast throughout the winter, and in the summer when necessary. I have stacks of tins and tupperware, coffee cans, and jars full of bullets around by the time I stop. Then I start in on a marathon loading process for the rifles and handguns. I never get ahead on that. I really need a progressive for the pistol stuff.

I kinda know by my primer purchases, I order them in case lots of 5000 per case. On a yearly basis an average order has been

1 case of small rifle 1 cases of small pistol 1 case large pistol will last about 2 years, 1 case of large rifle and 1 of Mag will last me for over 4 years. I do have several machine guns that eat ammo.

In a year's time, I shoot a lot of ammo, but most of it is work related. At home, I shoot about 15,000 rounds a year in competitions. I shoot a Lot of rifle matches. I also shook skeet, and I dabble in IPSC some, just to keep an edge. Work is another matter though and the records at work will show about 75,000 rounds that I have drawn for test and evaluation purposes per year, and I never have any left over when I'm through. Most of it is machinegun ammo though, so I don't really call it shooting, because of the volume of fire..............Kingpin

Waksupi,

Still takes nearly a day to melt and pour 100 lbs of quality lead bullets.  250 is a heck of alot.

Kingpin,

I shoot trap from low gun and still break 22 on average - and I'm doin it with a SBE.  Drives some of the guy's nuts' (Love every minute of it).  I'll shoulder if theres money involved but I got rid of my BT so I only do it fer a back up gun on leagues now.

Between qualifying with handgun, rifle and shotgun for work and just target shooting, hunting and pest control it would be a guess. Say maybe 10,000 +/- every year not counting rimfires. Never needed to keep track. Lawdog

This year, 5 shots out of a muzzleloader and 18 out of my pistol (i shot the pistol today). The pistol shot poorly, so i am going to try other ammo. I was using Winch Supa X 255 lead and 225 silvers. I am going to try some Speer, PMC, Hornady, Remington and Federal. Then i will work up some handloads.
