Last week we did some trail riding/hunting Duskie grouse. Sharp tail and Huns, AKA Gray partridge .
If it was not so far and the boy was off we would try some Sage grouse. Sharptail are similar but very different to a Prairie chicken, in fact most call sharpies Prairie chicken or just chicken, we call them Sharpies.
Sharpies and pheasants over lap in there habitat, with the grouse hanging more in to the grassy prairies and sage. But will be found in ag land wheat and barley, creek bottoms and shelter belts.
But on the edges more. A hen or young rooster look very similar to a sharpie, have to be on your toes not to shoot one by mistake. We can get 4 a day with the possession limit of 3 time daily bag. Huns have an unrealistic limit of 15 a day, never happens...
There only slightly larger than a dove or a robin.
BUT VERY FAST. most time they bust out from between your legs. We call them Missiles with feathers.
Anyway that's the plan for the weekend.Clap

Well it was not the worst hunt.
The two of us bagged 2 sharpies and 3 doves.
We shot the only two grouse we saw. We jumped 3 flocks of huns two to far out and one was TO close.
We walked in to the middle of the flock when they jumped all flew at once and in every direction. I had one jump and hit my leg, composure was shot, by the time the brain reset they were gone.Confused
Doves where just opportunity shots walking back to the truck. Trekked a bit over 12 miles o foot in all, Wonderful day weather wise and a lot of fun.
