Got a woodchuck problem. For westerners a groundhog is like a marmit; maybe 5-8 # average, 10# top. A big rat lots of fat.
What brand air rifle would kill one with proper shot placement at 35 yards. Can't get closed. I know most air rifles will kill crows/squirrels/blue jay at 25 yards. but do I need more?????

Wish I could tell you.
We have Ground hogs, rock chucks, and wood chucks out here too. In the mountains we have Yellow belly marmots I think there all the same animal, just called different names depending on where there living.
I've been blasting the heck out of the cottontails in my yard with just a 17 cal co2 short barrel pistol. If I can get a back of the head shot at 20 yards there DRT. Other wise the pellet goes right through , dead rabbit but they run in to there holes and die and stink. My boy has a pump up something in 22 cal and a 4X scope by by bunny at 50 yards.

I've never tried woodchucks or ground squirrels with a pellet gun. Rabbits go down pretty easily with a good hit, meaning head shot. Surprisingly enough, though maybe not, squirrels are tough buggers and don't die so well. I would guess you'd need one of the heavier pellets, a relatively high velocity, and a head shot for sure. Good luck. 788

I have a .177 Gamo. I think the model is Whisper.
I'm not sure about a ground hog, but I have knocked a few grey squirrels out of the trees in my back yard with it. I'm guessing 25 yards is the longest shot I've taken. (small back yard) P.S. They might call it a whisper but it isn't quiet. Wing master

I have a .22 cal (pellets) Benjamin pump up type air rifle. 4 pumps good nuff for targets at 10 meters....would think few more pumps might be adequate for Head hits on your groundhog inside 10 meters. I have installed a Williams receiver sight on mine for accuracy.

I like rifles, but never felt anything toward air rifles.
But my ground hog problem at camp got worsee. Got one living under front porch and one under back deck. everyone around me has the same, and then we have them staggering in form the woods and brush around me. Maybe this year the new neighbors will understand that since I quit shooting thme they have doubled and will double again next year. gone flowers. Would like to go back to my super accurate CZ 22 long rifle with standard velocity loads.

I think the .22 would be as quiet and probably more effective.
