The rifle manufacture seems to understand the young shooters today.  IF it is ugly, it must be more accurate, ie   precision/tacticle/MOA.

Out of my 40+ rifles the 4 most accurate al walnut with deep bluing, all sub MOA.

The poorest acuracy is a syn stock, SS fluted heavy barrel sniper rifle that I had custom made.

Walnut/maple and tank blued is IT  for me.

I agree Bear. I only have 3 plastic stocked rifles. The Sweed is showing some real potential, but My Sako Forrester .243 is my most accurate rifle.

I have always felt that beauty is in the eye. Ugly is a term that is very subjective. Fired a few side-by-side European rifles that patterned at saucer size at the 100m line. For six figures you would expect that such pieces of art would be lasers! Many a chassis gun is...for the sake of argument, tacticool. Butt ugly to a purist, but usually turns a MOA bolt gun into sub 1/2 MOA...ugly suddenly of new meaning. Nothing feels like an oil-rubbed chunk of well balanced walnut in my hands. I hate the feel of the plastics in rifles and handguns alike. For all weather I've discovered Hogue rubber stocks and could not be happier with them. They just do everything well except looking and feeling like the other options.

Double rifles are judged for accuracy by group size where the barrels converge. My
470 shoots a 3" group at 75 yards and is considered a tack driver by guys i know who own doubles. Face it they were meant to kill big ugly stuff that can eat you, or grind you into taco filling. 3 to 6 inches is certainly minute of buffalo when "the shit gets heavy." I have several rifles, bolt guns, that i built, that are definately deadly to the point of all but pulling the their own trigger and driving the bullet wherever you want it. They all have their calling, even the tomato stakes.
There are times when a normal man must, spit in his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.

your right King,  my double does 4" at 100 yards.  But I've gone to relying on just the first shot and sight in for that one.  That barrel does sub MOA.  this is what I want as most of it hunting life is in Pennsylvania, New York, maine and New Brunswick where ranges are short and game is spooky.  you only get one shot.  I know if I need a second shot that barrel is 4" off at 10 oclock at 100 yards.  I don't use this rifle for dangerous game (black bears are not DG in my mind.

But my double has a nice euro walnut stock, oil finish and classic lines.  Wouldn't own a double with a syn stock.

So ...effectively, they are single shots in doubles clothing? Joking, they are nostalgic and cool. I get it.

Winchester had the 1895....

Savage had that little take down survival 22 for campers to shoot griz with to piss them off so they get eaten quicker I guess?

Remington, just about every revolver they ever made, but that's just me.

Anything Stoner or old Mikael ever designed had to be massively improved upon...still ugly.

Can't leave out the Europeans...Enfield, orig. pattern 17
Just about anything the French made
That Polish commando/paratrooper/folding monstrosity of WWII, could never figure out what it was supposed to be? STG? Thompson? HK? Maybe some leftover tank parts from Kalashnikov's work bench?...lost on it.

That superglued contraption of 2 1911's stuck together...looks gangsta cool right?
...oh yeah! thats gonna hurt!

I like accurate rifles.
I like wood and blued steel.

But the 2 most accurate have McMillan synthetic stocks.
Both have Rem 700 actions;
free-floated heavy barrels with
aluminum pillar-block beddings.

a few years ago, I wanted a long range rifle.  Used Remington 700 short action 308 heavy barrel.  Put is all in a Choate Ultimate Sniper Gun Stock.  the stock is very heavy, and more rigid than steel.  Everything floats (1/8" clearance) on two aluminum vee blocks holding the cylindrical action.

Those pillar blocks ,  about 1'x 1'  are the key to accuracy.

it is my only butt ugly riflr, ss barrel.

I'm an equal opportunity owner. As long as it's accurate and the scope is mounted correctly, I'm good
