I don't clean my cases every time, only when dirty (the cases, not me).
I'm using walnut shell with red rouge in a vibrating (donut) cleaner. Seems everyone is doing it wet today....do I need to conform???

Tried wet once, didn't wait long enough to dry & found clumped powder after firing. Never again.

Don't use a bottle brush!!!
Kinda like getting a 300 WSM when you already have a 300 WM that is great. If your system aint broke, don't fix it! Your not going to gain anything of consequence by changing. |

Can the old donut style (midway) vibrating tumbler be used with the SS steel and water?
Or do you need a new tumbler??????

When I tried it I just let them soak in Hoppes #9 in a sealable plastic tub.
That said, the proscribed way is with not a tumbler but a Sonic Cleaner. A completely different device all together. One advantage is noise as the sonic cleaner makes almost none especially when compared to the raucous of the vibrating tumbler. |

I tried both the sonic and pins route, not worth the trouble. Putting pins in buzzbucket, won't work, they just sink to bottom. I used old rock tumbler, it does good job, but is slow and you have to dry afterwards. Sonic with both the commercial and homemade solution, does work, but slow and you have to rinse and dry after.
I switched to lizard bedding (walnut shells) years ago, it works faster than corncob and besides being cheaper, than lymans, Desert Blend, doesn't get stuck in flash holes. I don't care if case is shinny or not and honestly don't bother cleaning most cases anymore. Unless the cases drop in mud, a quick wipe with towel, during inspection is enough. |

yep, the small size walnut works good and no primer plugging. ofcourse I blow out each shell with a compressor (and eye protection) just because that is the way I do it.
sounds like my donut vibrator is not homeless.

I've never done it, but I've thought a fitting on lid, to attach shop vac to, would be worth while upgrade. Even used outside, they generate quite a bit of dust, that you really shouldn't be breathing in. I use the dryer sheets and strips of cloth, to trap most of the dust, but that's why I tried the wet, to start with.
I've started having people use the d-lead soap and d-wipes, from Dillon, after shooting or reloading, especially kids. You can also get d-lead products, on amazon, cost more, but free shipping. |

I use a donut style vibrating tumbler with the Lyman walnut hulls with red rouge.
I tumble them until they are shiny new looking. I have found that if I replace the walnut hulls more often it works a lot faster. I have thought about a sonic cleaner though. But like JSG said. "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" Wing master
