I'm a coffee addict.
For years I've carried a Stainless Steel half Liter/16 oz thermos bottle while hunting. These last forever, but the stoppers die, and can't be replaced. Just had a stopper die yesterday. I've had Alladdin, thermos, Eddie Bauer, and an Indian brand. As careful as I am none last more than 5 years. Anyone know of a good brand I could buy...and then buy an extra cup and stopper??/ that should be a lifetime supply. |

I've always used Stanley thermoses, the handles don't last, but I've got some, I used while doing concrete 45yrs ago, just bent copper pipe and hose clamped on for handle. I'm not sure if they make 16oz ones though, I had couple half gallon for coffee and wide mouth for soup.
I guess they do make them, I'm sure there's cheaper places to buy them. https://www.stanley-pmi.com/shop/classic-vacuum-insulated-bottle-16-oz Here you go all in one. https://www.stanley-pmi.com/shop/mountain-vacuum-coffee-system-bottle-17-oz Out of curiosity, I checked ones I have. 44oz mfg 10/60 (old one of dad's) My 68oz coffee and 24oz food ones were to worn to read date, but were from mid 70s. These were all made in USA by Stanley Super Vac, different than current China company. I wonder if they still offer free replacement? Edited by RobertMT - 30 November 2017 at 12:30 |

Like you I drink to much coffee. I have used all different kinds of vacuum bottles. They all eventually die. The ones I am currently using are Nisson and they have been pretty good. I have the 1 and 2 quart models and have been happy with them.

Spent 5 hours at hospital/drs office yesterday. Had time to think. Think I'll just buy two identical half liter vacuum bottles, then I 'll have two stopper, two cups. I hate to throw a 1/2 pound of perfect stainless steel bottle into the recycling bin.
I'll look at Nisson...does it have 4WD????

hey brer bear....infn the stoppers last 5 YEARS..... at your age why would you need a spare stopper??? I have a 1 qt coffee stainless Stanley and a wide mouth bottle too, again stainless Stanley. Don't know how old they are but had them since early 70's......1970's that is. Both seem to be ok yet. Not used lots anymore like in years past.

I the really old days, a cork stopper was all that was needed.
I have a 1 qt Stanley with a threaded stopper and a plastic cup; still works fine. But today the small thermos come with SS cup with plastic linner and an ez pour stopper. I do like the ez pour stopper. One of my .5 liter bottles has the plastic cup liner cracked so it can't be cleaned; the other has a broken worn out ez pour valve. A couple of years ago I bought a nice SS .5 liter model on close out sale for $5. It was nice looking but wasn't insulated; inside and outside were the same SS surface, no air gap. I set it on the porch with hot coffee, it was cold in 1 hour...worthless. On my thermos USE. I cover that bright SS with a piece of walnut grained contact paper; no bright shine in woods hunting. Then I use an old wool sock (the one without the hole in the heel) as a cover aka coozie to add heat retention. been doing these two things for 50 years.

bear....nice trick with the contact paper camo job on SS bottle but do you only have 1 wool sock with hole in heel to wear in your boots????? actually a real good idea to add the extra insulation via the wool sock to the SS bottle. Never had a bottle with the e-z pour stopper but have seen them in drinking cups. Good idea too as it doesn't lose as much heat when pouring vs a big hole from screw in stopper. One weak link in older thermos's was the thin walled plastic cup to drink from....that had zero heat retaining qualities....too hot to drink when first poured then cold by the second sip. I'll tell you Cold Coffee is not my cup of TEA!

I'm a 20+ cup of Joe a day type guy. Now it is de-caf only.
The EZ pour is great while driving; and I can pour the .5 liter with my one good hand...can't do that with my quart thermos. I like hot coffee; but because I drink so much I often set it down whne working...so cold is OK. Ocassionally I will drink a left-over cup that has been sitting on my work bench a day or ?

Coffee makes Kidney stones .
Way Back I drank a LOT of coffee and ice tea. AFTER three sets of stone attacks , all on opening day for deer season. I only try to drink one cup of coffee and one cup of tea a day. When I'm out hunting I splurge and have a cup about mid afternoon. Normally it is cold coffee out of a water bottle , just easer. I was looking at 12 volt Coffee makers but dropped that Idea.
