Sounds great. Problem with lots of 'so called short
action cartridges', (like   257 R, 7x57, 284, 6.5 swed)
is they really don't fit a short action (308 length).
So I prefer these in a standard long action (30-06).

So your custom action should give you plenty of room to
seat bullets out. We will need pictures!!!!!!

The .284Win I currently shoot, was built for me years ago on a standard Rem. 700 short action. In order to allow optimal COAL with 140 grn or better bullets seated well out, the GS opened up the forward section of the box magazine and made a few other miner adjustments to the feed ramp. That short action allows me to load a 3" COAL cartridge if need be, with not a bit of binding.
So not a "Standard" short action internally, but someone better know what they are doing before whittling out an action too.

Bear, so as not to hijack Wing's thread anymore than already, gonna start another one soon I bet you'd appreciate. I'm in the midst of modifying a CZ527 Youth model in .223Rem into an 18.5" bbl, FS Carbine. Will start that thread when it's finished and I can post pics!

Will look forward to it.

Re your modified short action. I've done that. One
slight problem on mine is you can not eject an
unfired/loaded round from the chamber. need to remove
the bolt and take the unfired case out the back!!!!???

will look for you new thread.

700HE? That sounds like something Hubbel 458 would build.

I'll stick with the lighter recoiling rifles.

IBD,

I really would like to give you a report on my new rifle. The problem is, I still don't have it back yet.

I went out to the gunsmiths shop last Friday and he gave me some Cock-n-Bull story about the barrel not being the right contour. He said he reorderd it. The barrel is in stock at his supplier and should be here in a few days. Yeah Right. I think he used it for someone elses build and put mine on the back burner. I will try to go out there tomorrow as that has become my traditional Friday routine.

I am generally a very patient guy, but I am starting to loose my patients.I took it out there on May 5th for gods sake.

as soon as anything changes I will let you all know.
