.I read lots of reviews on the net. I read the worse
ones first. Seems that the FTX by Hornady has plenty of fail to fire and feed & ejection problems. And these comments are from many different brands of pistols. Might be that Hornady has changed it slightly??? gunsmith though they were thicker primers in the FTX. These are serious problems for CCW. Right now I want the most reliable feed/fire/eject ammo. After I have reliability, then I'll play with expansion/penetration. I tend to prefer penetration to expansion, especially in light CCW guns. I really don't want to get into reloading this new round. |

My experiences with Hornady ammo have been good and I don't care for their rifle bullets, so I'm not normally a Hornady fan. I haven't tried Sig or Fiocchi 380 ammo, so can't speak to those. I would buy a few brands and see what functions best in your Diamondback, you want to put some rounds through it anyway, to break it in. Pick what works for your pistol, I would stay away from magtech, white box, UMC, and other "bargin" lines.
I've used Hornady Custom pistol ammo, with XTP bullets in several pistols, in .380, 9mm, and 45 and never had any fail to feed, fail to fire, or fail to eject, with quality pistol (see below). I've picked up some of the Hornady "American Gunner" ammo and it also uses XTP bullets and appears to be same as "custom" line, but has flag on box, few bucks cheaper. I expect it'll be like V Max and Zombie bullets, same except marketing. When I first got 380, I went with Keltec, before replacing it with Ruger LCP, because Keltec didn't feed reliably. Hornady custom is only one that was even close to acceptable in it. I tried dozen different brands in Keltec jamamatic and even started reloading 380 for it. Hotter loads seemed to increase reliability and because Hornady Custom is "hottest" factory I tried, it worked best. I used up partial boxes of brands, I had bought for Keltec in LCP and it too preferred Hornady's XTP load. I had switched to critical defense, because it was reported to expand better, after shooting through heavy clothes and not overpenetrate after HP is plugged. I never had feeding issues, in LCP with it, I only shot couple boxes, for testing though. I did trust it enough, to let daughter use it, with my LCP she ended up with. |

I'm a big Hornady fan, for 55 years. I like their XTP
pistol loads and shoot about 5000 of their rifle bullets each year. I also shoot and carry a 32 auto, the 32 ACP makes the 380 look like a MAGNUM. I was carrying HP in that, but after a few decades switched to solid, wanting more penetration in the mini-defense weapon. I've got a 1500 mile drive before picking up the pistol. As I pass along I'll pick up at least 2 boxes of different ammo. Probably be just break-in ammo; I don't trust auto pistols until about 1000 rounds. And as with all new guns I'll need a good bit of shooting to figure the best way for me to shoot. |

I often hear the 380 is a bad choice because of limited
brands/kinds of ammo. found this site with many CCW ammo brands, a lifetime of testing would be required, even plastic bullet ammo! http://www.luckygunner.com/380-auto-56-grain-arx-polycase- 25-rounds#reviews |

Bullets (& powders) have come a long way in past decade
or even more recently. Making calibers like the 9mm & .380 more viable as a self defense caliber. Certainly lots to choose from now days. But I agree with bear...reliability is first. Some of the new 9mm semi autos are nearly as small as many .380's. |

I really like Speer Gold Dots. When I can find them
locally, that's what I carry in both of my carry guns. 38 special and 9mm. I assume they make them in .380. Wing master |

gun is in. But I'm in DC. will be back to pick it up on
Tues. Off in 1 hour, Shopping Walmart for just any old box to breakin/try it out. If i can find any of the ammo you folks recommend, I'll get it. But probably get stuck with white box winchesters. |
