I feel like D...caught in a custom boat project.
I have a large, heavy fiberglass, wide kayak...great boat but heavy and wide by today's youthfool yakers. spent yesterday and today adding cleats, bottom anchors, foot pegs and a new semi-fixed seat. The seat is last, like D i'm a scavenger liking to recycle and save money for reloading. So I got a fiberglass chair ($1) from a discarded school lunch room. I've removed all the metal, and want to mount the seat 8 inches high, in a semi removable manner. rigidity is important as I will be poling, fishing and shooting out of this set up. The 8" is a compromised height for all these activities. Now to get the 8" I was thinking of two runners of 2x8 on edge, about 2 foot long. Any thoughts on a lighter rigid mount material??? plastic legs would be too flimsy. PS no plugs on this yak %$#$#@ |

I would build plywood box of correct size, using 1/4" or 3/8", would be strong enough and besides being lighter, would be easier to mount and more stable. You could either glass it or use varnish. It would also allow for storage or floatation, depending on need/wants.

thanks. I've got fiberglassed in floatation. been
thinking of plywood. at my age use will be minimal so plywood life expectancy is longer than mine. runners allows room for calls/shells/ lure boxes. |

Rigid fiberglass. Give creative pultrusion a call as they have a whole lot of seconds for practically free.
Got my attention as I remember yack seat was what we called the toilets in our dorms. They were smack up against the sinks. Just sit side-saddle and let r fly from both ends after hard partying...or stomach flu. |
