NO not in a city park!
Planning a bird trip soon. There are some fire restrictions in place, like no fires ???? No smoking ??? Can't let your safety chain on your boat drag and spark ??? It has been worse In the past we had to keep 2 wheels on the gravel county roads, no using two tracks that had grass in the center, stuff like that. The problem is when your in the 'burb camping, your not to have a stove or gas lantern out side the vehicle. Sounds like it will be cold food for three days . No showers for sure. I guess that's Mt in the fall. Two of us can sleep fairly comfy in the back but we have to unload every night, makes for a fast camp brake in the morning. this time of year there is a LOT of daylight for hunting then some coyote calling at night , Not much sleeping anyway. PS: No chilly or beans on this trip, If you know what I mean ... Edited by d4570 |

Are those restrictions because you are in the 'burb?
would they apply to a tent camp? |

Yup!
No ignition source out side a vehicle. No propane lantern , I'll bet it would also mean out thermacell BUT you know, I'll still keep that one on. |

D;
Don't some MRE's have a built-in heat source for the food? Of course, even so, it's a good news/bad news situation. Hot food, but they're still MRE's. 900F |

Just use your propane stove inside the burb, leave a window down while cooking or cook on tailgate.

I keep the camp kitchen in the back of the truck, about halfway towards the front and tied to the sleeping shelf, generally cook on the tailgate or inside if need be with the ubiquitous Coleman propane stove. One year my father and I hunted out of a rented Suburban, did not have the camp kitchen but otherwise same.

Welcome TomP !
Good to hear from a new person. The Sububern is gone now , I harvested a deer with her. They just don't hold up to a 70 mph deer strike like you would think. Replaced it with a 2013 Ford f150 6.5 foot bed 4 door Pick up truck.

Welcome Tom. look forward to your next post. Generally where do you hail from? I have a small back pack stove. I use it with 'burb camping, are anytime...sooo small. all I'm doing it about 4 minutes !
My Exployer doesn't have the leg room that the suburban has; but I do camp in it per D recomdations. next one will be an Expeditiom. I can verify that Suburbans don't take doe mulies at 70+ |

Hello
We are marooned in Riverside, CA, with grandchildren, this was probably our last move. The camp kitchen is one my father built from plywood in the mid-60s. It's on its third or fourth vehicle now. The guessing game among my brother and sister are whose handwriting is on the list of stuff to remember on the inside of the lid. Tom

In the '60s, Popular Mechanics had lots of plans for plywood cam kitchens. They had room for flour, salt, etc in special organized compartments, and lots of do-it-yourself cooking stuff. Today i use mostly prepared foods!
Sorry to hear your anchored in CA. |

Sounds like the same kind of camp kitchens. I'll post a picture of it if I figure out how.

Welcome Tom. I'd like to see a picture of your camp kitchen.
I like camping "old school". Their might be a couple of people here that can verify that. In my opinion, that's what is lost in the made in china plastic camping of today. If you need help posting a picture, let me know. I'd be happy to help. Wing master

Here is an imgbb file: We are still not sure which parent wrote the list, suspect it was a joint effort. Tablecloth? Mom. Saw? Maybe not. Not sure how to get pictures here...

New links work good.
looks like a great set up, just fits your vehicle. I find the clear plastic boxes (Sterlite) are great, so I only take me 10 minutes to find the salt/pepper.

I Really like camping stuff from the 40's through the 60's. Back in those days a lot of it was home made. Wing master

My Dad made some panniers, out of plywood for when they packed in. Shelves were spaced so it could hold pans/supplies in place both horizontally (while on horse) and vertically (while in camp). They carried extra plywood, same size as side/top of box, to lay across tops, for stove, dish tub, and work area. There's a few places now selling bear "proof" versions for ~$1K pair.
