Well there is ten hours I'll never get back!
We were hoping with the "BIG" front coming in there would be a push of ducks and geese. NOT! But like they, who ever "they" are, A bad day hunting is better than any day working.
It wasn't BAD just very SLOW. No geese and only a few ducks. My son earlier in the year took the boat down the river from Ulm to a sand bar where the Smith dumps in and dug some pit blinds. That was our destination. We got to the boat ramp and about to splash the cow when some other hunters pull up and pile out. The asked if we where going up or down I said down and they said oh to the pits? Crap the world knows out secret spot... They decided to go elsewhere. Down we go, you have never lived till you run the river in an over loaded duck boat in pitch blackness. About the time we get near the bar we see 3 head lamps . Here some people had walked in pushing a game cart full of decoys, to our PITS!!!! Well nuts! We almost ran on to a island about half way back so we headed back there there. Not the first choice but as it turned out it made no difference. 96 goose and duck decoys and three "spinners", and we we're set. That's just what we did, sit ,sit and sit. DIL shot the only duck that flew by... Loaded back up and went back to the ramp by 4:00. Three other boats went by one was a 20 jet with a "V" 8. He must have smacked the sand bar we bumped on the way in but I'm thinking he had to do some shoveling. There is a sound you just "Know" when you drive a jet. He was a jerk anyway. When he unloaded his tub and parked. He blocked another guy and parked across the access to the handy caped parking and out house. I don't know why a lot of people lose 50 IQ points when the get to a boat ramp. What goes around comes around!
Well that it for this trip. Son is hunting elk wit my Buddy today. Next week , Coyote calling YAH!!!!!

I was sitting brush on a high steep bank waiting for the
tide to come in and bring with it the geese that had been
feeding on the shore for the previous several days. I saw
a boat tooling up the bay headed straight for where I was
sitting. When the two hunters were a couple hundred yards
off I stood and waved my hunter orange hat so they would
see that I was hunting there. They paid me no mind and
pulled into a shore blind under the alders a hundred
yards to the east of me and set out decoys. I was p!$$*d
but because they had an established blind I didn't know
about I packed up and left. I had no desire to intrude on
an established hunting spot. I suppose if I had a blind
under similar circumstances I'd do the same thing as they
did after the effort to establish it.

The pit blinds....you might have posted a note with them
with your intent to use them. Would that work in your
cnek of the woods?

Be careful what you decide to not like. Your wife may wear one. Your son may ride one. Your daughter may bring one home. You may have to have one someday.

Probably not. Public ground first come first serve. If some one puts up a tree stand and leaves I can use it all I want If it's left in a tree on public land over 14 days and I find it I can take it !!!!
