Fella's;

Time's a-wastin', big game season is rapidly approaching, and I've got work to do with the Swede.

The latest, second, five-shot group with the Swede was in the evening after work, not in the morning calm.  The wind was blowing left to right at 10 to 15 mph.  Nonetheless, the Sierra 140 grain Gamekings produced the best group so far for the gun.  Three shots were all but touching.  There was a renegade hole to the left and right of the group.  With the wind, I'm not surprised.

All groups so far have been with RL22 powder.  I'm going to obtain a pound of Ramshot's Magnum powder & do more testing.  Published articles I've recently read indicate that the Ramshot offering may give me the velocity I'm looking for.  I know that the Swede isn't a speed demon cartridge, but RL22 has been running about 2550 fps at 45 grains regarless of the bullet used.  I'd like to be at 2650 fps with a 140 grain bullet.  Well, frankly, I'd like to be a bit faster than that, but I'll certainly settle for 2650.  Speer #14 shows 45 grains of RL22 to be max charge weight for strong commercial actions, but states that they are getting a little over 2650 fps velocity.  Hornady #7 doesn't list RL22, but shows 2600 fps possible with RL19 in an 1896 Mauser with a 29" barrel.  Nosler says RL22 is the most accurate powder, and that they used 46.5 grains of it to get 2740 fps out of their 23" Lilja test barrel.  My barrel is a 22" Lilja.  I'll most likely boost the charge weight of RL22 carefully, if the Ramshot won't produce in this gun.

I haven't fooled with COL at all, yet.  And, I may not have time to do so this year.  But, the Sierra's are making me feel a bit easier.  I'm certainly hoping that on a calm day I can get MOA, regardless of velocity.

PS:  If anybody'd list me the Sierra manual data for 140's and RL-22, RL-19, N160, and IMR4350, I'd sure appreciate it.

My Alliant manual shows 48.1gr @ 2700 fps but it's for a Speer 140 and R22. It doesn't give info on the test gun.

R19 = 46gr @ 2650

Endeavor to persevere.
