{ CB Wrote(Fella's;Today, Sunday the 26th of October,  was opening day for deer & elk in the state of Montana.  At 4:30 AM the road from Great Falls to the Little Belt Mountains was a river of vehicles bound to drop da thutty-point buck this very day!  I know that the bit about watching the outbound road being a river of red is true because I've not only viewed it, I've participated in it.)}

Well I was part of it Sunday TOO. We headed to our normal opening day place ( Lewistown area) at 5:00 got there at sun up headed out . The same as the past four years and the same thing this trip right at Shooting time we top the hill on a Meadow and as normal there is a herd of Whiteys just getting up for the day. The same as all the other times we let my Boys wife have first crack at the herd buck... And he is getting very big now !!! For some reason she has a bad time with this animal! She is a great shot and very persistent, but cant get this guy. Our whole trip was just a bit off. When they got up there was a tree between her and the buck this time she never got a shot, HUMMM. The rest of the trip was that way If only we went this way or to bad we didn't stop here ,on and on all day. Close but no cigar. We say a lot of deer but most were under 4 points and we weren't going to shoot small on the first day. Some were shooters and most were well in range just not in the right spot at the right time. I was using my 870 so I had to be close , my boy had the 44 mag marlin and he had to get close, His wife was using here 25/06 and out bud had his favorite 270 so they were our snipers. We all had "A" and "B" and Elk tags so any thing goes. I was the only one left with a bear tag and was the only one NOT to see the bear. I did not have a fall Turkey tag and I could shoot turkeys all day long, you know the story any way it was a great day of hunting !!! The final game count for all of us was one ruft grouse, one nice turkey, and a white tale fawn , there is always next time.
