1. if you have microsoft's photo editor or or photoshop (or some similar program),  go to step 2. if you do not, then go to step 5.

2. open the pic in either program and goto "image" (or "edit"); somewhere there, it will say "resize."

3. set the size to 800 pixels wide.

4. proceed to step 8.

5. if you do not have the above programs, open the photo in MS paint.

6. goto "image," then "stretch/skew."

7. reduce the image by percentages, being sure to use the same percentage for both horizontal and vertical. start with somethng like 85%.

8. save (make sure it is saved as a .jpg) and close.

9. check the properties of your picture (rightclick on the picture, then choose "properties"). if under 100KB, then proceed to step 10. if still above 100KB, return to step 1.

10. go to BSB and post your picture!

here are some more notes on sizing pictures:

-------------------------

the best way to deal with it that i have been able to find is to reduce the pix so that they are 800 pixels wide. just about any program can do this and most likey you have one on your computer that came with the digital camera or MS office etc. when it is 800 pixels wide, it reduces the height by a proportionate amount and everything will fit the way it should.

also, pix have to be 100kb or less in size or they will be too big for upload. usually, reducing them to 800 pixels wide and saving them as .jpg will accomplish this so that they are 100kb or less.

if you don't have any of these programs mentioned above, a last resort is to use MS paint, which every comptuer has. you can open the picture in paint and then under IMAGE, choose stretch/skew. from there you can reduce it by percentages. it might take a little bit of trial and error, or if you are a math whiz (unlike me!) you can right-click on the picture and choose properties to see how many pixels wide it is, then take the width and calculate the percentage to reduce it down to 800 pixels. for instance, if the picture is 1600 pixels wide, you reduce it by 50%. BE SURE TO REDUCE BOTH THE WIDTH AND HEIGHT BY THE SAME AMOUNT, or it will be all messed up.

when an email has a pic attachment imbedded, it is USUALLY a large BMP file.

you need to save it to desktop and then open with MS paint, which is on ever computer. after opening it with paint you simply need to SAVE AS a /jpg and it should be good to post - also usually brings it down to a post-able size.

more detail on the pictures within emails:

if you get an email with a picture embedded in it, you need to right click on the picture and SAVE it onto your computer (the desktop is most convenient). 9 times out of 10, it will be in .bmp format. this format can be uploaded to BSB, but it usually takes up more space than usual.

what you need to do is right click on the picture (on your desktop) and choose "open with..." and then choose MS paint OR whatever program you normally use for photo editing (photoshop, etc.). when opened, choose SAVE AS and then save it as file type .jpg.

once it is saved as a .jpg, simply start with the 10 easy steps in the opening post of this page. for those who don't want to scroll up, here's a summary:

check the properties to make sure it is less than 100 KB in size. it should be, but if not, all you need to do is resize it a bit to make it less than 100 kb.

once you do that, you can upload it to BSB with absolutely no problems and insert it into your post along with the message you got in the email.

this is extremely easy, takes only a minute and a half or so, at most, and is a lot easier than it sounds on paper.

if you are still having problems posting pix, here are a few things to check:

a) even though the pic is 640x480, what is it's size in KB? to find this out, right-click on the pic and choose "properties." it needs to be 100kb or less. if it is more, you may need to resize it more.

b) what format are the pix in? you can check by right-clicking on the pic and looking at the properties. i've had the best success using .jpg format, which seems to be a more efficient format (and usually smaller in KB even though it has the same dimensions). it is very easy to convert a pic from .bmp to .jpg. simply right click on the pic and choose "open with" and then choose MS paint. once it is open simply "save as..." and choose the type .jpg. discard the .bmp file and then post the pic.

c) which button are you using when you try to post a pic? it should be this one: Image Upload, not this one: .

All,

I was able to find some more room on this server, so I raised the file upload limit from 20kb to 100kb. This should alleviate a lot of the issues you're having with posting pics. The vast majority of the pics uploaded are under 100kb, so I think this will return things pretty close to normal.

KP, In English it amounts to is this. If you posted your avatar as a picture, there previously would only been room for one arm and a little shoulder on the photo. Now we could see the entire photo in all it's glory. Got it?  RD
