That's us putting in the mud boat. DARK and COLD. Loaded with coyote caller and gear, shotguns and rifles, off in to the inky foggy darkness. Down stream we head with anticipation of a full boat of fresh fur. First stop but us an a small island with a very slight breeze up the river, prefect for a cross call and we could watch both sides of the river. There is not a house or road for miles in any direction. We called, we called, and we called, HUMMM no one at home? Push off and go some more. When we call the river we try to find some kind of drainage or flat bottoms to call so they don't have to jump 300 feet down to get in to the boat. In the new boat we can cover miles in just moments. Next spot looked at least as good as the first There are small island all along that we like to put the boat up agents for a back drop and lay in the boat. Call and call nothing. This time of year the bald eagles start to make nests for the "season" we lost count at 27 but there was more to watch as we called. A few Golden eagles, the larger eagle we have, would soar by too. All the time Canada geese where very vocal about the disturbance. Not a single coyote could be coaxed in to come see what was making all the commotion. All fantastic spots to call and I know very little use by people for months. I don't know why, we did blast a silly honker that happened to get in range of the Stoeger. Finally at 26 mile down stream from the truck, we through in the towel. By now about frozen to death, we pull the spud bar and hit the starter Nothing, battery dead. A few panic moments and the spud was firmly replanted. We carry jumping cabals and we jumped from the second battery, popped right off. we get to about 10 miles from the landing and the battery ran completely flat dead. As we are drifting back down stream we swapped the batteries and hit the gas. DANG this battery thing Must be addressed before the next trip out. The Brigs and Straiten 40 EFI has a 50 amp charging system no reason for a new battery to go dead while running other that it is NOT charging. Mister "Mud Buddy" will be getting a call First thing Monday Morning. I seem to be have a hard time getting started on more then one front!!!! Edited by d4570 - 10 January 2021 at 14:07 |

That is a heavy charging circuit for a B&S 40. could be a short in the boat causing a draw when stopped, or a bad charging circuit. running th boat and turnign on a light then disconnect the battery. if the light goess out, it is the charging circuit.
Sucks on a new, expensive boat. of course dead batteries always suck...but new expensive we expect less hassle. good luck D seems even the dogs are against ya.

No short, The 50 amp is the norm now on mid range boat motors.
You get in to the BIG 300 HP plus motors and they have even bigger systems.

OK I got with my guys in Utah Mud Buddy.
The warranty will cover anything but it has to be done by a Brigs and Straiten dealer. There is none in Montana... They talked with the Briggs Representative and they gave me a list of a few places they will approve to do the work. Now we need to get them to do the work.

Sad story again but lets hope the "shop" can find the problem and get it fixed properly this time.

Good luck D.
It does seem like you have had more than your share of bad luck with vehicles. Hopefully the bad luck will run out. Wing master
