Been rainy and windy hereabouts.
But wanted to change my sight-in from on at two hundred to on at 300 yds. So took the lightweight Kimber 260 Rem to the range yesterday. Hot humid and wind gusting to 35 mph, mostly cross, but constantly changing. Shooting 123gr A-max Hornady. Got it dead on at 300 yards; with 10 shots vertical dispersion was in 1.2 inches (.4 MOA). I was ignoring the wind; only looking at drop. Horizontal dispersion was 5.5 (1.8 MOA) inches. I was happy, but will still need some fine tuning. I only shot the one 10 shot group as my spotting scope was bouncing wildly in the wind, making 6.5 bullet holes impossible to see at 300 yards. hard rain now, no shooting. will start cleaning rifles! |

That must make you 4.5" high at 175 or so?
How far away was that one you got last year? DD |

Last years was 332 yards, measured.
Last year I was on at 200 yards. If you remember I was lucky to have 3 guys with laser rangefinder measuring for me...Unfortunately, one said 332, then someone shouted 140 yd, then someone shouted 92 yards. After crying in my scope.... I held dead on, and hit 8 inches low DRT. Bullet hit a rib, angled up thru the heart and the off side lung, then exited taking out two ribs and leaving a 2 inch exit hole. The entrance hole was not even 5 mm after the skin relaxed. Once I get it perfect on at 300 yards, I'll shoot 100, 200 and interpolate between to make a range chart. No 400 yard close, so I'll use a ballistics program to figure 400 and 500 yards. I'm quite surprised to see how well the pencil thin barrel shoots out at those distances. |

Bear,
That is damn good shooting, especially for 10 shots and a pencil thin barrel. Have you ever considered using an adjustable vertical turret etched in yards? I have 3 rifles with yardage tape made for my specific loads from Custom Turrets. They cost around $25 each and work very, very well for my applications. It's just a matter of range the target, set the turret to that range, then pull the trigger. It's very fast, and for an old geezer like me, there is less chance for error. Oh, BTW, send some of your rain my way. |

Trigger Control is knowing when not to pull it.

I've never done a ten shot group with mine. My whippy little barrel heats
up very quickly. Usually I walk down and check the target between shots to let it cool down. Nobody was home yesterday to sign for the FedEx box with mine coming back from being threaded in Texas. I'm interested to see what hanging that big can on the end will do to the groups. DD |

Liz, When I hunt I am usually stocking and don't have
the time to reset the scope. My 10 shots were with waiting for the barrel to cool back down to ambient temp. don't know what they would have done with a hot/heating barrel. The barrel is thin enough that within 1 second after a shot the barrel is REAL hot. |

I'd say a 300 yard zero should be about right. It would be
interesting to see what your point blank range would be on a 9 inch target. It sounds like you are good to go to me. Wing master |
