we do this now and then, so anyone who wants to participate, feel free! for those of you who know me, this is all review, but for those of you who don't, allow me to introduce myself!
the scope will be a sightron s1 3-9x40mm that i think will do well on this rifle. finally, we have my pride and joy; a herter's model J-9 in .308. manufactured in yugoslavia by zastava in the mid-to-late 60's, this rifle has a mauser 98 action and a 23.5 inch (supposedly) douglas barrel. accuracy is GREAT as long as i am not shooting it, and it is pretty good when i am the one pulling the trigger....(i need more practice!!). french walnut stock (awesome refinishing job by rob1), milled-steel action, floorplate and triggerguard. this is the same rifle that charles daly is now importing, and i highly recommend them. sitting on top is a tasco world class plus 3-9x44mm, which makes it a great muley and antelope scope and rifle combination.

Ok guys, my introduction will be much shorter because i have lived a much shorter life than tasunk. Well here it goes. I was born in Newport, NH, or actually Claremont Hospital, NH at 6:33AM on 9/11/88. I have lived in Newport all my short life. At first i lived on a farm, but that house was a piece of junk. I lived there until 6th grade. We then moved into town, god damn i hate it here, and we ended up with a much nicer house. We are living on .8 acres of land. I am going into my sophmore year of high school and school ended on friday for the summer. I have 4 firearms. I have a Ruger m77mk2 aught six lefty. This rifle is sweet, but i havent shot it yet. I also have a Marlin 336A made in the 50's. It is chambered in .30 WCF. A Winchester 94 made in the same caliber, post 64, accompanies them. To close up my firearm collection is an old Savage Stevens model 94C single shot 20 guage. My dad cut down the stock and the barrel, and added on a Ruger recoil pad. I hope i didnt bore you guys too much. NH_Hunter |

Hell, now I'm feelin old, born in '64 in Western NY (upstate), worked the far till I was 18 and took off (sorry) for the Air force. Spent nearly 12 years traveling, shooting, and just enjoyin myself. Got out went to college at Iowa State Univ., made it to Kansas worked there 3 years, then got hired out for a year in Colorado. Got hired back at the old firm in Kansas so now I'm back. Gun's taught by a ex-navy guy (friends dad) on how to load, shoot, and work a bolt. I mostly owned Rugers 223, 25-06, 30-06, 300 win mag, to name a few. Had a couple of Remington a 778 in 223, and 700 in 30-06. Now I have a abolt 300wsm (still breakin her in). Shot Skeet, trap, rifle and pistol competitively while in the military, don't really like competition as much as shootin with friends, and building up the skill set. Enjoy accurizing rifles, and building loads for friends. Hunting - NY, Delaware, NM, Texas, Louisana, Kansas, Iowa, and PA. I have hunted whitetail with bow, blackpowder, rifle, and shotgun. Birds - turkey, dove, pheasant, quail, duck. Love bird hunting cause you get good company, even if your only out with the dog alone -have a good dog (vizla). Hunted just about everything but elk, brown bear, and boar in the lower 48. Love trout but can only find them in the supermarket here in KS. Married 15 years, got a 13 year old (just got his first shotgun) we shoot on weekends. Mentioning time, I'm part of that generation gap right after the baby boom. Not many my age around it seems, grew up with the old salts twice my age, but you probably picked that up from my posts. Last but not least I'm in Telecom, been doing everything from phones, to IP, and ATM, Web, .... since 82. Spot |

Good heavens, you're a bunch of kids! I was born in Iowa in 1954, and grew up on a farm. Got out as soon as I could. I've been a welder, a carpenter, built missile complexes, owned a shrimp boat that operated out of Key West, Florida, throughout the Bahamas. ] I've done road construction, cowboyed, wrangled, been a farrier on the race tracks and on the ranches. I'd been a logger until I broke my back. I've been a saloon swamper, and a bartender, and a bunch of other low down no good jobs I had to do to eat. I've been in gun fights in foriegn countries, and known some very, very bad people, and still do, along with a hell of a bunch of really, really good ones. I've been a moonshiner, and a bootlegger in years past. I build fiddles and mandolins, guns, and my main hobby is cast bullets and shooting. I play mandolin in a few different bluegrass groups when needed, and where ever I can when not needed! Now I tan hides, and do Indian artifact restoration and reproduction work. I lived in a teepee two years here in the mountains, and then built a little cabin back up here in the hills. I've been a life member of the NRA since 1984, and was a regular member for years before that. I'm past president of the Flathead Valley Muzzleloaders, a member of the Flathead Freetrappers mountainman bunch, and a founder of the Crooked Creek Plainsmen. I'm a Thirty Secound Degree Mason, and Past Master of a Masonic Lodge. Ain't no ones business how many or what kind of guns I have.

I was born in AZ a long long time ago, my father was stationed there during one of those wars. When he was released from active duty, the family moved back to New Mexico. I grew up on a ranch in my formative days, where a mans word was his bond, somewhat different from today's standards, but I have adapted. I went to grade school, high school and college in New Mexico. After college, I moved to Arizona, mainly because I found employment I was interested in, but in reality it was a money thing. While in AZ I worked for a firm doing structural design on high rise buildings and manufacturing plants. I also honed my skills as an amateur gunsmith and shooter. My career was interrupted so I could serve some duty time in Viet Nam. Edited by D.F.C. |

I'm Triggerguard, Charley to my friends. Born in Dallas, Texas in 1954, which comes close to making me a certifiable old fart. Been marries for 29 years, have two sons, 17 and 21. I work in the pest control industry, I'm the service manager for a family owned business. In pest control, think of hunting on a small scale. We do structural pest control (insect pests, termite work, etc) of course, but also do a large amount of bird and bat work, and a lot of animal trapping. San Antonio has a huge animal population that most folks have no clue is there. Lots of raccoons, ringtail cats, possums, and skunks. Pass that roadkill skunk, and take a deep sniff...smells like money! I'm a shooter and a hunter. Have been a reloader for 25 years, and a bullet caster for about 20. I do almost all of my own gunsmithing...good friends with a local 'smith and his son. He passes on to me a lot of guns he takes in trade and doesn't have time to mess with, along with assorted parts and other 'junk' when he cleans his shop periodicly. Amature historian, particularly aviation history. Been an IPMS (International Plastic Modeler's Society) member off and on for lots of years. Did pattern work for a small plastic molding company out of Dallas a few years back. I made the master for our kit of a Caproni CA-3 we did about ten years back. Also do wood working. There isn't much I'm not interested in. Have a bunch of rifles and handguns, and even a couple of shotguns. I like muzzleloaders and military rifles. My wife refers to me as an accumulator, not a colector. Life member TSRA, conditional life NRA. Triggeguard

I'm 46 years young an' my mule's only 2. I reckin' he'll last 'bout as long as I do, long as he lives to be 30. I worry 'bout breakin' in new stock when I'm old an' brittle. Anyhoo, my kin hails from Glasgow, KY. Ancestors pioneered what's now Clay County, TN (Dale Hollow, Lake) and Monroe and Barren Counties in KY. I moved out west in '81 when I couldn't find no more rabbits or decent squirrels to hunt, first to Arizona, then when that got too crowded, Wyomin'. Got two growed kids, a boy an' a girl, back east where my first ol' lady moved. Got 'nother almost 15 year old female yard monkey that's drivin' me outta my friggin' mind! Will gladly trade her for a good lab pup (OBO). My new ol' lady is a gem. Kinda young, which makes her able to keep up with me, almost. I figur thet as soon as the doctors tell me I got cancer or some life endin' desease, I'll pack into the park, cook up a lil' rancid bacon, an' pick a knife fight with a griz. Seen too many fellers go out with tubes up their arse an' a pathetic look in their eyes to play that game. |

OK youngsters, I'm turning 60 in August. Born in 43 I was born in the coal mining country of soutwestern Pennsylvania, outside of a little town called Monongahela, same as the river. My father was an Italian immigrant who came over when he was 5yrs old a little after the turn of the century. He started working in the mines at 9 for 3 cents a day and his father got 9 cents a day. He put about 30 yrs in the mines and walked out after being trapped three times and put another 25+ yrs in the steel mills. with only a 6th grade eduaction, he learn machine shop ,trigonometry and geometry himself for figuring angles on the lathes and mills. I mention him becasue I'm damn proud of him. I have 2 sisters and a brother. The oldest sister died of cancer at 44 In 61 when I graduated from high schol there wasn't a job to be had, and my father said he wouldn't let me go into the mines. I signed up for the Air Force, but flunked the physical due to a bad back. The state sent me to trade school and when I graduated, I went to work for Sandia National labs in Albuquerque. Darn good thing, because I would have been in Vietnam in the hot times. This is real ironic as they promptly sent me off to Nevada to work in underground nuclear testing, which I did for 10 yrs and then got a job in Colorado where I did the same thing until 92, when Clinton shut them down. So I spent about 18 yrs underground. I now work as a physical security integrator where I design and install high tech security surviellance for large facilities, but only until August 1 when I'm retiring. I have a littel place 25 miles outside of Colorado Springs, Co My wife of 27 yrs is still putting up with me , but my first wife decided she needed another boyfriend when I was traveling. I have daughter and son, and 4 grandchildren. My interest are raising, training and using good mules, and elk hunting. I have been up and down the scales of quite a few rifle calibers, but have settled on an 06 for about everything, but have been known to pop a few elk with a muzzleloader. I have taught quite a few handgun classes for Concealed Carry permits here in Colorado Springs, and I'm NRA certified to teach rifle, pistol, shotgun and home defense. I have shot competitiion big bore rifle, handgun and some Cowboy action, but I'm not too proficent at it as my eyes age. We plan to fix up the place after I retire and sell out, maybe moving to Wyoming or Montana. We are looking around Cody, or west of Billings. Too darn many people here. If you youngsters want to know anything, ask me. I don't know anything, but I make up alot as I go along.

Ok, so I'm an old fart too! Born Bozeman MT. in '55. Moved to Washington when I was a kid. Have wife and three girls. 9,11, 18. Got to grow up fishing and hunting. Did all kinds of stuff outdoors. Learned how to bow hunt on neighbors chickens. First game I shot with pellet rifle was neighbors chickens. Don't worry, the neighbor took the meaning of "free range chickens" to new heights. No coop just let them run all over the country. Which in our case was our corn field and vegi garden. Spent three years in the Army in W.Germany keeping Boris on his side of the line. Have driven tankers for 18yrs. I shoot trad. archery, trad. BP, and modern firearms. Don't have any fancy, pretty guns. All mine work hard.

Fella's 6/23/03; Where to start, why at the beginning of course. Born in 1947 & today's my combined 56th birthday & 31st anniversery. It's hard to get in trouble forgetting the anniversery when it's on your own birthday. I was the product of two WWII veteran U.S. Marines. Before somebody makes a smartie remark about that, I'll also tell you that the old man was at one time the middleweight boxing champion of the U.S. Marine Corps. But I learned how to fight dirty from my mom. She was one of about 2000 female Marines at Cherry Point N.C. with about 35,000 men. Attended Natrona County High School in Casper Wy. This was a public school with a junior ROTC program. Shot rifle team & got all the gongs for NRA indoor smallbore. After graduation, I decided I'd had enough of the Corps & joined the U.S. Army in 1965. Although I wanted to become an armourer, the recruiter talked me into the Intelligence game. Became a Military Intelligence Coordinator. At least Mom's education didn't go to waste. Got out in '68, married in '72, took up roadracing motorcycles in the late '70's thru the early '80's. Then about '83 or so got a viral infection that destroyed the nerves controlling one of the muscles that moves the left eyeball. My master eye, of course. Punching into turn 1 at 140mph & starting to see double is when you know it's time to give it up. Fortunatly I had a back-up plan. Started being a professional ski instructor in the winter of 77/78 & did that for 21 years. Then the mega-company I'd been working for for 17 years decided to de-mega our operation in Wyoming. We moved to Montana 'cause the wife's from around here & in a round-about way I became a locksmith. And there it sits, warts & all. But it's my life & I can live with it. 900F Edited by CB900F |

The Bucket of Blood was my main hangout in Key West, mainly shrimpers, and Greek sponge fishermen. Not your most gentile place. The casual tourist, or weak of heart didn't do much more than stick thier noses in the door and leave. There was another pretty decent bar across from Ernest Hemingways that was pretty decent for young nubile touri Chickies. I was in and out of Bone Key several times loading the holds with ice, also Marathon quite a bit. Yep, Jimmy done let the cat out of the bag. The Keys are over run with Butt Pirates now.

Well, I started out in wildlife and range science and worked for a few years for the Utah Div. of Wildlife Res... and then decided to go a different direction. The career counselor asked what I wanted to be and I said I didn't know. So she asked what was my favorite thing and I tolt her "figures" (since girls was all I thought about back then). So the counselor put me down as an accounting major... and somehow I stuck it out. So by day I'm the controller of a company. But after that 5 o'clock whistle blows (as well as on weekends and holidays and vacations), I run me and my folk's cattle ranch in SE Idaho. My legs is bowed from a hangin' on a horse and my wife says I'm like a "true western movie without any star". We got us three young Selway packers and a baby girl. I play a little guitar and mandolin myownself. Been teaching myself and practicing in my spare time. My wife says I would sound better singing my cowboy songs in the "Acapulco" style. I figgered that meant, without instramental accompanyment. She corrected me and said that she'd enjoy my singin' more if I went to Acapulco (without her) to sing my songs. At 40, I may have lost a step or two but I still talk as big as I used to... 'specially when I gets that squint in my eye and I starts talkin' 'bout the HIGHHHHH country.....

Dang there's a lot of us old farts here. I was born in 1958 right here in Jamestown ND. Graduated high school in 1976, had a few odd jobs until 1979 when I was drinking with a few buddies who bet me 20 bucks that I wouldn't apply for an opening at the police department. I did, got the job, and I'm still doing it, guess it grew on me. I've been hunting one thing or another since I was old enough to hold the gun up by myself. Started out on ducks, rabbits and tree rats. In 1977 I started bow hunting deer, went three years before I killed one, but then I was hooked. Other than varmints deer are about the only thing I hunt anymore, with a bow, a muzzleloader and a high power rifle. Every now and then I talk my wife into an elk hunting trip. Speaking of wives, I'm on my third, the first two couldn't stand the fact that I hunted.(they didn't much care for me being a cop either) Gave them a choice, accept it or hit the road, they hit the road. I have a 15 year old son by my second wife, and three step kids, 15,16,18. Among other things I am the firearms instructor for the police department and I teach Hunter Safety to young hunters. I've shot competition with muzzleloaders and with handguns although I don't compete nearly as much as I used to. I also enjoy amature photography. That's enough bandwidth for now.
Take care! huntin1 |

Whew . . . EDIP is older than me . . . that took some doing. If you think I am going to spill the beans . . . you are mistaken. DFC told me to travel incognito. Rumor has it that I live in Colorado . . . could be. Everybody in the world is moving there - might as well be me too. Another rumor has it that I own just one rifle . . . could be . . . remember reading an article that included the statement: "Beware of the man who owns just one gun!" . . . or something like that. I hunt wookies for a hobby . . . usually roam around Montana, but, just recently have had to add one of those Eastern States to my itinerary . . . that's "huntin' list" for MULESKINNER. I do have a "hate" list. I dang near despise anyone wearing somethin' sold by L.L. Bean. Add to THAT list: people who drive ATVs, BMW SUVs, and people who won't loan me their Sendero. Would rather shoot quail and ducks than Bambi. Strikes me that huntin' good ground Buffalo is a lot easier in Safeway . . . can you imagine dressin' one of those things? Have hunted in Arkansas, Kansas, Nebraska, Texas, and a couple of other places. Dang near got killed by a tree stand in Texas . . . thing swarmed on me! Guide named Jesus set me up for that . . . "Haysoos" . . . damned near got shot. All-in-all, Uvalde is a good place to hunt . . . especially those dirty little pigs [not the two-legged variety] . . . Man you guys got dirty minds! Hunted with a muzzle-loader too . . . carried a pistol too - and a revolver. All-in-all . . . that was only three shots [well . . . 5 in the revolver]. From what I have seen, I need at least four or five shots to shoot a deer . . . that's what I told Hillary when I told her that the Easterners needed AK-47s to hunt with. She said she would mull it over! Reloading is a must - especially for shootin' a shotgun. Dang near burnt down a wheat field one time with a 20 gauge reload. Shot flames a hundred yards or so. Something about excessive wad pressure. Oh well . . . Well . . . as usual . . . blabbed too much . . . did that to irritate someone . . . I guess! So you don't know too much . . . DFC said to keep you all guessing! His agent won't let him talk. I don't have an agent, but maybe I should. Somebody tell Ed Weatherby to send me a new Weatherby, one made in Minnesota, and I will be as happy as a
