Fella's; I decided to go to the range earlier this morning, as the wind was negligible and the weather was warm enough. I just took a couple of .22's, my CZ gopher gun to check zero, and the Browning T-bolt. The T-bolt, although sighted in, has never given me the accuracy that I thought it should. Part of the problem is, of course, finding the right ammo to feed it. And with a .22 magnum, which the left handed T-bolt is, finding different ammunition to feed it can be a bit of a problem. So, during the cold and really windy past, I've been keeping an eye out for different magnum ammo & bought some to try. Out at the range, the gentle zephyr in town turned into a 10 to 12 mph wind. Cold wind. But, since I was out there, I figured I might as well do something remotely useful & at least test. Glad I did! Hornady's 30 grain V-Max .22 magnum ammo, the stuff with the little red tip, certainly seem to work. I got just barely over 1" groups with the aforementioned wind blowing from left rear to right front. We will do more testing of a calm morning, but I am encouraged. In fact, encouraged enough to have a beer! 900F |

I've had good luck with that stuff in my 96-22. I got about the same as
you just over an inch 5 shot groups at 100. Never shot a gopher with it but I think it would be a stopper if one were to charge? Bought a brick awhile back at $9.59/50. DD Edited by deaddog |

Fella's; Seems like the general concensus of opinion, on a couple of different sites, is that Browning dropped the ball on the trigger group for the new T-bolts. I haven't had mine apart, but I'm told the housing & quite a few of the internal parts are plastic. Ugh! Here's hoping that Timney, or somebody else steps up to the plate with a good aftermarket trigger group. 900F |

Sadly, that is the direction most manufacturers are
turning. Sounds like Miroku (Browning) are turning to cheaper manufacturing methods just like most other companies. I have pretty much come to the conclusion that all future firearms purchases shall be of older American firearms or newer European firearms, as the quality of what American manufacturers are churning out these days is pure garbage. The last Remington and Ruger I purchased were garbage. It is downright depressing, since I am back in NH where most Ruger firearms are made, but I won't buy any more. |

NH; Good to see you back! I'm sorry that I have to agree with you that the quality of the common American made rifle seems to be price-point driven on the road to hell. If you want a CZ, Sako, or something else you see as a quality foriegn firearm, buy it quick before all imports are banned. My crystal ball sez that that's not far in the future. 900F |

I've been pretty decent. Amazed I have survived this
long, but hey, here I am. Lived in the People's Republic of California for a year, got bored of it and moved back to NH. Starting to get bored with NH again, so time will tell where I end up next. I can guaran-goddamn- tee it will be someplace with electrician license reciprocity this time around though! I don't spend anywhere near the amount of time I used to on hunting/gun forums, as you have probably figured out. I have come to the conclusion that my .30-06 with a Leupold fixed 4x on top (m8 4x33) is going to do the trick on anything I plan on pointing it at for the next couple decades or so that my rifle "loony-ism" has just worn off. Spending ump-teen thousand dollars trying to fix perfection just seemed like a monkey trying to mate with a football. I bought a bow a couple years ago, and haven't scored yet, but it is fun. Just been living the American dream of "Work, sleep, screw and eat" the past few years, and they have flew by. Really glad to see you guys are still around! I don't know what made me swing by here last night, but I am sure glad I did! |

NH; If you want, I'll get you in contact with my son & SIL. The son-in-law is a master electrician here in Montana & my son is an aircraft electrician also here in town. Both bow hunt also. SIL has a MYGAWDS witnessed two gophers on one arrow shot too. 900F |

This is the list of states I can reciprocate to:
Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Maine, North Dakota, Utah, Wyoming, Vermont, and Massachusetts. Looks like if/when I move again I'll be doing oil work. $$$$$$$$$ I have some contacts in the oil industry, so that may be where I end up. Just put the ol' social life on hold for a couple years and stack up the dollars. After the horse hockey I had to go through in CA to get licensed, I want to be able to just send paperwork and a check, and get a license back in the mail. 7 months after submitting my application to test ain't going to fly again. After poking around a bit more, it looks like Montana will reciprocate my NH license but it doesn't work the other way around. Weird. I will have to look into this a bit more. I wouldn't be able to pull the trigger on anything until next year as I need to build up my savings again and pay off the debt I accrued in CA (~6k now). Will definitely keep that in mind CB, thanks! |

Crazy ass oil boom in North Dakota.
It does happen to boarder Montana. The only thing is no where to stay. People rent out rooms in their basements with a shared bathroom for nearly $1500/mo. http://money.msn.com/investing/north-dakotas-oil-boom-11-coo l- facts 1% unemployment. DD Edited by deaddog |

Fella's; It's true, I'm an unemployed 1 percenter. I doubt however that NH is going to find a cheap left handed .223. The terms LH & cheap rarely exist in the firearms world. Not sayin' that he couldn't sell his body on street corners, or become a gigilo to a rich widder lady to afford one, but then he'd have less time to shoot coyotes. Just sayin'. 900F |

I really enjoyed Lander a few years ago when we drove
through. Stopped there for a few hours and seemed like a really nice town. I don't think there's much natural gas there though. I think the brunt of that is along the I-80 corridor, right? I gotta do a bit more research on that subject though. I would prefer to avoid North Dakota if I can, and get on the gas fields instead. |

It really depends on what you do in the gas field. I am in northeastern Wyoming and their is oil and natural gas here. Their is a kind of boom going on around Douglas right now. I think it is more oil than gas though. A few years ago their was a really big boom around here drilling for methane gas. Now, as you probably know, the price of natural gas is so low that I don't think their is much of a demand for drilling gas wells. The price of oil is up right now and that is making it look really good for this area. This industry runs in cycles. I am just hoping for one more big boom. Wing master |
