Is anyone other than me hunting deer with a flintlock rifle?
lots of fun, especially with snow. I use a 45 cal flinter, and I can hunt squirrels at the same time.

Wait, wait, wait.....I think your taking this a little far now Bear! I get it that you hate the drag and want them to drop by the bumper, but now you want to use a smoke pole to cook them before loading them up? Then again, shoot them a second time and have jerky for the drive home doesn't sound too bad!
Have one in the safe, the boy brought it home. I have no experience with one but it keeps taunting me......may break down and give it a go.

I've got about 7 whitetails with it. All one shot, longest was 134 yds in heavy snow.
sort of fun...anticipating will it go bang. PA flint season is buck or doe statewide.

Don't have a flintlock rifle, but I do have a couple of smoothbores, and I take them along various parts of the season; a 24ga (58 cal) trade gun for grouse, and a 12ga double for deer and grouse hunting in heavy cover--the open barrel for buckshot and the choke bore for birds. Haven't got a deer yet, but the grouse load works wonders, unless I center 'em too close.

I made a 20 ga smoothbore flintlock. Used it for ducks....wow, figure leads with that long delay!
the 20ga flintlock is really good on turkey, with #4 lead. Since it is a front loader the bore is perfect cylinder bore that I reamed to fit a 20 A-A wad. Just my concession to modern firearms and it is difficult and expensive to get 20 ga paper/felt wads.
