If son returns from ove seas in 2 weeks, he'll need a 6+ passenger car.  Been figuring to give him my SUV, 130K.

So I'm looking for a new SUV!

To me an SUV is a vehicle with a truck frame, primary rear wheel drive, and selectable 4WD with full power to front and rear.  Not many American made models.  Most are Crossovers of Front wheel drive, passenger car conversion  to AWD, with no frame and 30% max torque to rear.

So far only the Tahoe/surbaban meets my criteria.  Would like a 5 liter (283, 307, 318, etc).

Never bought an Asian car, don't want my last vehicle to be Asian.

Ford Bronco ?
Kinda ugly.
Does GM have an offering that is just a bit smaller then the Suburban class?
Toyota land curser? but you'll get better mileage with a Sub. I don't know why the Toyotas get such bad gas mileage.
Get a Silverado, or Canyon in 4 door and short bed with a topper. Or the Ford offering.
Same room in cab and with a topper the cargo is even more.

Bronco...ouch.......double ouch.

It is exctly what doesn't fit my idea of a SUV.  Sharing common underpinnings and powertrains with the Escape, the Bronco Sport is actually a car-based SUV that is styled like an off-roader.

Choice of 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine  or the 1.5-liter, three-cylinder engine.  Can't tow my boat, no frame.  these are 'illusion model SUV".

They look like a SUV, but are just low end front wheel drive cars, with some different boxy sheet metal.  Small engines running high RPM to get horsepowe with little torque, burn out in 100k.

Ford also likes to add twin turbo chargers, bearings last about 70k with perfect lubrication and luck (repair cost $4400+).

That's why I went with the 5.0 in my F150, not the Eco boost.
BUT the heads wend bad at 80,000 $8,000 repair.
Get a GM 4 door truck and topper.

Well Kinda.
You could never run chains on all 4 and feed cows all winter in a 1/2 ton.

My wife had the short version of the Chevrolet Tahoe. It was a good vehicle but I think I would have rather had the long version.

I think the longer version would have handled better on slick roads.

It had a 5.3 V-8. The same engine my 2003 Silverado has. I never have had any engine problems with either one. I don't know how heavy your boat is, but I have pulled a car on a trailer with mine and it did fine.
