Unarmed people are not very high up the food chain.
I think politicians should all be required to walk around the woods for a few days with nothing but a copy of the endangered species act and a copy of the PETA charter to protect themselves. |

Fella's;
Read the blurb & am now wondering what type of gun and caliber he used for the initial shot. A few years ago a hunter up near Choteau Montana was in the front range & came across a sow griz, with cubs I think too. In any case it attacked him, & he shot it in the head with a .300 Winchester magnum. He then reported it to the state fame & gish. Apparently they were able to identify & track the bear. I do remember that the next spring it was reported that the bear had denned for the winter & was now alive and out. The point being that even though he didn't kill the bear, it was hit hard enough to break off the attack & find better things to do. And, this was a grizzly bear with cubs. Earlier this year, I shot an approximate 300 lb. boar black bear with my 6.5 Swede. It too wanted to do nothing except get away from me and die. Which it did & I found it the next morning. Was it a panicked shot from the North Carolina hunter that possibly missed, or only grazed, the bear? Most bears, unless they are with cubs, don't really want to mix it up with a human. So why was this one coming up the hill at him? Was it a chance encounter, or had something provoked it? Trust the media to not be able to accurately and effectively report on the incident. 900F |

Can't imagine why anybody would panic or rush their shot when being charged by a bear. The guy lived, so seems he was at least lucky or good enough.

Rule #1 Use enough gun for the worst case scenario.
Rule #2 Make the first shot count Rule #3 Always have a back-up when hunting dangerous game Rule #4 When hunting bears with dogs and possible danger close situations, FOLLOW RULES 1-3!!!!! Guy got lucky. Any wounded or scared/startled creature is going to lash out. A nearly 400 bear is not one to lash lightly. Dogs probably saved his hide. |

I can buy "lucky." Often asked (especially when I was working) if I'd rather be good or lucky. Answer: I'd rather be good 'n lucky. But the four rules represent the superior skill you should use to avoid relying on the good luck.

Could be the bear was just looking for a handout.
His name was Yogi Actually bears often run over people. when they are scared they just run, if a guy is in the way (on the same trail) he gets run over. Same with dogs, trees, cars. Also this idiot had dog for his bear hunting...some bear dogs!!!! Edited by BEAR |

Democrat bears hanging around looking for a free meal, food stamps, handouts have become a big problem in national parks. Edited by CascadeFlyer |
